Just been treated to a delicious lunch at the New Inn. Two courses and drinks for £30 for the two of us, so in no way as expensive as some places, and, although the portion sizes weren’t huge, they were perfectly adequate, and, moreover, very tasty. The menu was fairly limited, but they clearly do what they do well.
Service was outstanding, just the right amount of attentiveness. We will certainly return!

Went for Sunday lunch. Very disappointed as expected so much more.
Expensive for pub food (£20 for 3 courses)
Service was good and very prompt
As a vegetarian the tiny main course was the same price as a sunday roast.
2 x 2cm balls of rice with cheese deep fried, 2 x 2cm baby potatoes, 2 slices of beetroot and a few green beans
Ice cream was on the over sugared sweet side for me (not what I expect in an upmarket restaurant)
Not sure why people think this worthy of being considered for a Michelin star.
I prefered the Priory in Portbury

Went there Saturday lunch-time, received dreadful service, waited over an hour for average food that was ridiculously miniscule in proportions, all in all a complete rip-off, with hopeless staff.

I was taken here for a very nice lunch a few weeks ago. There was a two course £11 deal on and it was one of the best lunchtime meals I had in a long time.
The place was pretty quiet although it was a Tuesday in February. I had a terrine followed by pork belly and it was all pretty good.

Had dinner here on Saturday night. The food was excellent but a little "noveau cuisine" in it's portion sizes. Service was basic, staff were inexperienced and lacking any charm. Had to prompt them for "service", courses were generously spaced on a realitively quiet night. Fires were not lit on a chilly night.
So food 7/10, ambience 5/10, service 3/10.
Some way to go yet.

Pub up and running again...more of a 'gastro' type now. A bit pricey, but good food. Beer (ale) average at best day I went.

We visited the New Inn for a special occasion and were not dissapointed. The food was really special, the flavour combinations were unbelievably good, my mum almost licked the plate and my dessert was one of the best I've ever had. The staff were lovely, attentive and friendly without being too encroaching. Both the restaurant and pub areas had wonderful atmospheres.
Having warned that two of us were vegetarian when booking earlier in the week, the only thing I was dissapointed with was that the only vegetarian main course was sold out. We were offered an alternative main course but unfortunately were not warned of this until we were actually ordering.
Overall, we all had an enjoyable and memorable evening, it was more expensive than many other pubs and restaurants in the area but was well worth it. I have already recommended to all of my friends!

The New Inn is now under new ownership as from the 4/12/09 and is what I can only describe as a breath of fresh air in the area. Its got a warm friendly contempory feel, and with a top Bristol Chef being the new owner and in charge of the kitchen, I think it will certanly put Backwell on the map as having a fine Gastro Pub ,and one well worth visiting.

The New Inn is one of Backwells oldest pubs and has a large faithful following of regulars. There’s three different cask ales available and a mere two lagers; fosters and stella artois. There’s a great little pub garden outside and a good number of seats to park yourself with a pint.
The New Inns main selling point is fresh fish. I had a meal a few years ago, so it may be better or worse but it was still great meal and far from extortionately priced.
The only niggle with this place is that it’s got quite a young crowd - now I’m only in my early 20’s, but by young, I mean that I’m a little bit dubious at some of the so say 'adults’ who are drinking there. Either ways. it’s a great pub that has a long future ahead, and I wish the new landlords the best of luck.
