Don't listen to the old reviews! For the quality of the food, atmosphere and service, Wildes is brilliant value. You can easily have a great main for about £10, or spend more if you want - the steaks are well worth the money. The wine list is fantastic and the chocolate marquis pudding is worth going for that alone. Highly recommended.

I had high hopes, following other reviews, but was disappointed. the service is best described as keen but unskilled. we made a reservation, sat down and 5 minutes later we asked to move as a regular wanted the table – not the best start. i didn’t mind moving as the table we reserved was very small. but the staff need training, I was bumped into 3 times, despite there being plenty of room, they just seem to walk too close. The good news was that the Bloody Mary was excellent. The food didn’t work. Monkfish in batter is not a substitute for cod or pollack. The chips were underdone, the mint peas not very minty. I couldn’t find a wine that appealed. However, there were some mitigating circumstances, a table of 9 arrived minutes before. The place has a good relaxed feel, so I will give it one more try. Await Part 2!

Wildes is a great place to go and eat and although the set menu is quite pricey if you are on a fixed budget the best thing to to do is eat the tapas. For two people picking and choosing a few tapas bites is the best way to get a brilliantly cooked meal for a cheaper price. There is a huge variety to chose from including fish, meat and vegetarian. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is really good with excellent waiters who are quite happy for you to spend as long as you want over your meal and more than happy to bring you more wine!!

The Eton mess for dessert is worth going for alone! Unfortunately, the main courses were overpriced and a little disappointing. There’s a nice vibe here though- low light but not dark, quiet but not hushed, chatty but not noisy! It’s not swanky (as you might think for a 'wine bar’), but not as rowdy as a pub - it’s just a simple down-to-earth kind of place. A good place to go for a few drinks (and dessert) with friends, but not a place that would be worth going with children however, as it is set in a basement.

I agree with 'sleepless’...the eton mess is fabulous! Wilde’s can do no wrong for me…The food isn’t top-quality-restaurant-food but its very tasty and the helpings are generous…I love the atmosphere, too…it’s very bohemian and the perfect place to share a bottle of wine, which by the way, is very reasonable.
