A very handy supermarket and stocks a wide range of goods from fresh to frozen ingredients plus store cupboard essentials and a range of usefull kitchen kit.

I particularly am pleased to see the Singaporean items such as Black Pepper Sauce.

They say you can tell the quality of the place from the fact that the chinese comunity shops here.

The recently opened cafe is a bonus.

By the way it is open on Saturdays

I find this store not only substantially more expensive compare to the asian stores in other parts of the uk such as the one in cambridge, new malden and london but also lacks variety for its huge size of the warehouse.

but the real issue here is that they SELL EXPIRED FOODS and consequently the quality suffers.

now I know it isn't illegal to sell expired food in the supermarket but any decent stores that want to have a good reputation won't willingly sell expired goods in their stores. You don't see tescos' or waitroses' selling expired foods to their customers do you?

it's a real hassle to shop in this store because virtually every single item you pick has to be checked to make sure it's not expired. and I've also noticed they sell ALOT of CLOSE to EXPIRED FOOD.

While I cannot stop you from shopping there, I certainly won't recommend it to anyone. if you really have to shop there's a quality asian store in cambridge which was far far cheaper for the exactly identical products and alot of places in london. but this one is to be avoided.

    We are always striving to keep the standard of our products at their highest by replenishing stocks regularly and introducing new products.
    We appreciate that sometimes products do take longer than others to be replaced and should you find any product past or close to its expiry, our staff will be happy to replace it for you immediately.
    We are constantly monitoring our prices and find that they are on par with, or in many cases, cheaper than many other oriental stores. (some of which also purchase several products from Central)

I have been using this store few a few years now and always find some thing new. Recently i have got into Thai cooking with the help of a Thai friend any recipe I have been given to try I have always found the ingredients here. The staff are always helpful. Has everything you would need and the staff are very helpful. (one of the staff even noticed I had some chillies in my trolley that were not as fresh as they might have been, she replaced these with a freshly made bag)

Central is a supermarket chock full of almost anything you’d ever need to cook Chinese, Korean, Thai or Japanese food as well as many ingredients you’d need for Indian cooking.

At the back are shelves full of packs of herbs and spices of varying sizes and types. Some you’ll have heard of, many you won’t.

If you’ve ever had a recipe you’ve been dying to try that needs something like lemon grass that’s virtually impossible to find in your everyday supermarket (and often even then the price is usually pretty extortionate) then Central’s your place.

It’s also a fantastic source of frozen fish other than your bog standard cod or haddock, such as red mullet.

There’s a good vegetable section although if you know what you’re cooking in advance some of those ingredients can be found cheaper elsewhere (most of the major supermarkets sell mooli (long white radish) and fresh ginger nowadays).

If you’re someone who’s careful about best before dates then it’s worth checking them first on some products here as they can sometimes be a bit close.
