We have made this our “regular” Indian in Market Harborough.
The service is fast – the waiters are friendly and efficient and look after you really well.
The food is really good – poppadums come with three chutneys – mango, onion, and a really nice raita. We asked for lime pickle as well and they were happy to supply this. We normally have onion bhajee as a starter but tried a lamb dish this time, which was delicious. The mains were also really tasty – fantastic flavours, and we ordered a side dish of aubergine which was stunning!
The general atmosphere in the restaurant is nice – clean, nicely decorated, relaxing.
We would recommend it to anyone.

My wife ordered an Indian take away last night from the web site menu. It said free delivery if you order £10 or over, within 5 miles,(we only live 3 miles away) which came to £12.90. When it arrived, they wanted £17.25! She rang them up and told them that she wouldn’t be paying that amount. They said that the prices had gone up. After going through the menu with them, as to what she had ordered it still came to £12.90 but they still wanted £17.25 she told them that she will not pay that and that they can have the meal back. He had a word with the manager and he told her that when she orders again, she can have a free nann. She told them that she wouldn’t be ordering from them again, and that if the prices are wrong on the web site, then they ought to get them changed. I presume that the free delivery charge has gone up. Anyway, in the end he let her pay the original price. They have lost our custom.

Definitely the best Indian food in Market Harborough. The restaurant itself is pleasantly decorated, it is clean, the staff are friendly and the service is good. Prices are average for the area (main courses around £5 - £7) and you don't get ripped off with the bar prices. We went for a friends 50th birthday and the manager very kindly supplied a free bottle of Cava.
We used to be fairly regular customers at 'Shagorika' down the road but would now recommend The Royal Bengal to anyone and will certainly be regular customers form now on.

Not reccommended for families with young children not just by me. The manager also implied that they do not want young children there.
Anyone who knows this restaurant will know that it has one insideroom with tables. This is an obvious attraction to children of all ages. Whilst we were having our starters (3 kids and 2 adults) another table had 2 children who after finishing their meal decided to play in that room and were happily playing there for a few minutes until their parents finished.
After my 3 kids finished and my wife and i were finishing they decided to also play in the room. We all left shortly after this and as i pressed the green button on the PDQ machine the manager told me that my children had been disturbing the other tables. And i asked why then had he not been over to tell me of this but instead waited until i was leaving.
Instead of answering he told me how if he went to a restaurant his child (only child i believe) would sit on his chair and not move.
I then asked whether he also told the previous table that their children were also disturbing the other diners. The children who went up to the table before they left and this was obviously what attracted myy children. To which the manager replied he had also spoken with the other parents as they left. Those children incidentally were probably aged 10 or 11.
I could understand if royal bengal was an 'exclusive' restaurant. But, it is a bog standard Indian restaurant.
The service was mediocre, there were no hot towels, there was no, 'how was for food?
and waiter cant speak good english and no uniform code.

Excellent food, old style cooking, not the modern '1 sauce does all'.
Friendly staff.
Only downside is it's in need of a face lift but don't let the decor put you off!
I'll be back there again when I'm in the area!

Attentive staff, with good food.
Generally not too hot - so if you like it spicy, you need to ask!
Recently had new flooring, new plates etc. added to their collection.
Good menu, good take away service as well as the restaurant.

the royal bengal is situated in st mary’s road in the town. it is an indian restaurant which at the moment is my favourite of the competition - only because the chef there cooks to my liking. prices are compariable with other like restaurants in the town but the premisis could do with an overhaul.

In the last 12 months the Bengal has come from being a fairly run of the mill Indian to arguably the best in town.
A new chef and a new menu transformed the restaurant into one always worth a visit, with an interesting selection of specials, as well as all the old standards.
The Sunday buffet is also worth a try - it’s not actually a buffet at all but you pick from a smaller selection and can eat as much as you want.
