Your mate was right, it was the first, I remember, I was in my late teens!! It seems to have closed now, maybe just for refurbishment?

Burger King on Sutton closed on 31st December 2011. Probably because no one went there anymore.
Being at the North end of the town, it got no passing trade, and was only ever frequented by those using the drive through. It may reopen in the centre of the town later on in 2011.

This was my first taste of Burger King. I remember being small and seeing the logo on the way into Sutton in the car and there it was the Whopper in all its glory. After shopping we drove down and parked up in its own little car park and I got taken inside and that was me hooked. However, whilst this outlet remains there is debate of whether it might just be the UK’s 1st fast food drive thru restaurant.
My mate Pete says (and I know he is not a source of gospel) that it was in the late 1980s and there was such a woo-ha about its opening that it made newspapers and stuff. That alone is not a reason to visit. Having a whopper and a nilkshake whilst passing through Slutton is though so do so and have fun.
