Hallam FM Arena Sheffield

after reading a lot of over comments and reviews about this place i suddenly realized how bad the situation really was, i too have being there several times and seen a very unclean area inside the arena tho i must say the outside dome and the entrance  was spotless. i too can NOT understand why they are being so picky about hiring a few more staff to help clean. specially when the drinks are $2 each and the rest. 

Parking is a fiver £3.20 for a large coke and no control over bootleg merchandise outside.

Used to love this place, both for gigs and sport, but seriously gone downhill in recent years.

The worst thing is the utterly dire standard of cleaning - I went to a gig here last December, and dropped my ticket under my chair, in block 107 - I then came to a Sheffield Steelers ice hockey game 3 weeks later and it was still there! And this is not unusual by any means, I have heard literally dozens of stories like this. The irony is they have closed several blocks to hockey fans this year, "to keep cleaning costs down", yet not only do they clearly not spend much time or money cleaning anyway, but they've actually put the rent to the Steelers up at the same time as closing off several blocks!! Unbelievable.

Second worse thing is the price and selection of food and drinks - a coke is £1.60, and the taste varies from average to undrinkable, the cold wines are usually luke warm, and recently the only confectionary on sale was the new Cadburys Shots and packets of Wine gums! Of course you could fork out silly money for a tiny tin of Pringles...

Car parking is also expensive, between £3 and £5.

The best things about the arena are the things the current management (Sheffield Council maybe?) can't faff with - the brilliant design of the building, including fantastic views from most of the seats, and the fantastic inner concourse - which lifts the arena design way above others, including Manchester MEN and Nottingham NIC.

Oh, and they've started to check your bags for food and drinks, yet don't seem to notice if you have, as I did last week, a bottle of pop in your hand as you walk in...

I’ve now visited this venue twice, and I’ve found them both to be positive experiences. There is ample parking, and at a good rate of only £5 for the event, many places it would be double this. Staff are reasonably friendly. Queues for concessions are long, but that’s the nature of these events. Loos operate a one way on one way out system, which keeps the flow going (pardon the pun). Seats are a bit cramped, but view is good from wherever you are

Very welcoming fantastic atmosphere wether it be ice hocky concert or other event , well marshalled and organised at all times family friendly and reasonably priced

Over the years, I’ve seen many events here - the first time I was inside the Arena was for a further education fair not long after it opened, but over the years I’ve seen concerts, ice hockey, a horse show, indoor football, wrestling, trade union conferences and so on under its roof, so its certainly a diverse venue.

I’m told by people in the music industry that the acoustics in the building are amongst the best in the country. It always sounds good, and has the added benefit of not being deafeningly loud either. Another thing in its favour is the parking - I’ve never had any problems finding a spot in the car park or general area, simply by getting there early enough, and getting out again at the end of an even isnt anwhere near the hours long slog you can experience at other venues such as the O2 or Wembley.

Sheffield needed a venue like this at the time - the only other real alternative back in the 80s was the City Hall, and that was unsuitable for many of the events you can see at the Arena. Almost 20 years later (!) its still a very well looked after and premium concert and events venue.

This venue is home to the sheffield steelers ice hockey team aswell as being host to many
concerts
and shows.
Many artists have played here from Iron maiden to mc fly.
They also have lots of shows such as disney on ice and an annual choir concert performed by
choirs from local schools which
is an excellent evenings entertainment.
Ticket prices can be very expensive as to can the merchandise on sale in the venue.
It claims to be disabled friendly but access can be a little awkward although the staff do
try their best to accomodate people with lots of diffrent disabilities
Inside the arena there is a bar and many stalls offering the usual over priced burgers hot dogs and drinks
the staff in the ticket office are friendly although it is often quicker and easier to make bookings online.
There is ample parking albeit very expensive.
Easy to get to but allow lots of time for the journey when attending an event as it does get very busy hours before
the event is due to start

This venue is used for things like ice hockey and the football masters to music gigs.

The food and beer prices are quite expensive and can be queueing for a good while but service is always friendly.

Always a good atmosphere at music gigs.

The Sheffield tram system is a quick walk away.

We saw Lee Evans at this arena and was not that impressed with the facilities or the
layout of the arena itself.
The carparking is ample and if needed there is a complex opposite the arena where you can easily walk to and park your car.
The staff are very helpful, but the disabled facilities are dire and you have to be able to walk a fair distance from the car park to reach the lift, where you still have to wait until the people let you in, can be over an hour behind people who are not disabled.
Apart from that, the usual food is not great, over priced along with the extortionate drinks, but the seating is fine, and the stage is ample.

good sized arena for concerts and sporting events…they have a large carpark, but it doesnt seem to be big enough when there is a lrage event going on

The arena hosts a variety of events, differing from music to comedy, from ice hockey to ice shows. Seating is good if you’re there to watch an ice show or hockey match, but if you’re going to a gig i’d advise you book standing tickets or book early and avoid being sat at the back of the arena. The sound quality for gigs is always good, as is the atmosphere and crowd. Merchandise stands are scattered around the arena and can get quite busy at times, but service is quick and efficient.

Hallam FM arena is very big, and hosts a number of big-name stars and holds events, as well as the Sheffield-wide famous ice hockey. For gigs the place is packed, and the atmosphere is electric, and while watching the Sheffield Steelers play ice-hockey you can almost feel like part of the action! Though don’t bag on getting a parking place, as it fills up rather quickly! I’d recommend getting a tram, as there is a stop right behind the Arena.
