Review of Mad Lillies Hairdressers from 15 December 2012
I visited this salon on a busy Saturday morning three weeks and really loved the noisy bustling atmosphere here. Most salons are so awkwardly quiet you feel that everyone is listening to your conversation. I read about the great head massages but i didn't get one, just a nice wash! My stylist was absolutely lovely (Savannah) and didn't make me feel like she was trotting out the same conversation for the tenth time that day. Great haircut, great atmosphere.

My only gripe (and the reason why four stars instead of five) is that the female receptionist seemed a bit lazy and not really interested in making customers feel welcome. I turned up 15 minutes early and instead of asking me to take a seat and providing a drink as most salons do, she told me that my stylist wasn't ready and to come back in 15 minutes, so i had to wander around in the rain for this time.

Regardless, i will definitely come back again!

I just had a cut and blowdry at Mad Lillie's, Hampstead and it's simply the best cut I've ever had! The lovely stylist, Jenny, took the time to study my type of hair, listened to what I wanted and made my hair look beautiful. The salon was warm and friendly and I absolutely loved the head massage given with my shampoo. What a treat!

Review of Mad Lillies Hairdressers from 5 December 2012
I visited Mad Lillies on a recent Saturday, i had been recommended by a friend. It was very busy and seemed a jovial atmosphere. Upon arrival, i was ignored by the receptionist who was at the bar at the back of the salon, when she did see me i was told i was late. I apologized as i thought i was on time. They really should send you a text the previous day confirming your appointment (all good salons do). I was introduced to my stylist  who was clearly not happy with my late arrival, and proceeded to colour my hair in silence. The whole high lighting process took 30 mins. I was then asked to move to the couch, then asked to move downstairs for washing, (where i was soaked) then back up to cut my hair, where there was no seat available. It was just chaos, if they know how many clients there are that day, surely they should have enough seats. When a seat became free, it was ripped and most uncomfortable. The haircut too, took 15 mins, the whole process felt rushed, and i was not made to feel very welcome. The salon also feels a little unloved, i normally visit another salon in Hampstead which is immaculate, Mad Lillies seems to be not of the standard i would have hoped.

    mad_lillies, 6 December 2012:

I am the owner of Mad Lillies in Hampstead and was absolutely devastated to read your review. I am so so sorry that you did not feel welcome, that part of your review was so shocking to me, so unlike our salon. I remember that saturday very well. We all talked about it the next day and came to the conclusion that we had somehow been a victim of our own success and knew we had to change a few things. Saturdays are generally very busy but usually nice busy with a great atmosphere and always very well organised. On this particular saturday we had tried to accomodate a few extra regular clients who were desperate to get an appointment. In doing so we omitted to stagger the colour appointments properly so that for a few hours some of our clients were asked to move from their styling chairs to the sofa while their colours were developping. The staff were under pressure as space was tight and they were over stretched. I realise that none of that is an excuse for making you feel rushed and I blame myself for putting my staff in a position where they may have compromised their usual exceptional customer service and super friendly personalities. You saw us at our worst and I am really concerned about that but I would like to assure you that for over 12 years our clients have been our number one priority and will continue to be so every day. We have learned from that day and know that we were actually extremely lucky that most of the clients in the salon were regular clients who have come to expect a very high standard of service and hairdressing from us over many years. Seeing that things were not running quite as smoothly as usual those clients were prepared to help us through the day with their usual grace, patience and good sense of humour and we were very grateful for that.
We always confirm our appointments the day before especially our colour clients and I apologise sincerely that you do not seem to have received a call. I am upset that I am unable to apologise to you in person or to try and make things right as you did not put your real name or even which stylist did your hair on the review. I want you to know that I have taken all your comments very seriously and very personally and promise you that your experience is definitely not representative of a visit to our salon. I have had my hair washed twice a week for over 10 years and still marvel at how wonderfully well my juniors wash hair and how relaxing the head massage is. I am more than a little embarrassed by the fact that your chair was not in immaculate condition but please be assured the salon is loved very much and the new chairs are being made to order as we speak! We would very much love the opportunity to show you why Mad Lillies is the busiest salon in Hampstead. Please call us and ask to speak to Karen I would really appreciate that chance to apologise properly. Thank you.

My girlfriend went to Mad Lillies last week and I feel as her boyfriend feel compelled to review the haircut. After she had an experience with an unknown stylist at another salon, she went with a salon that had reviews.

She came back and as soon as she walked through the door at home, I instantly saw a difference with her hair and more of a difference in her as she was very happy with the cut and style.

We has a wedding over the weekend and my missus looked a million buck and in my eyes better than the bride.

a very popular hair dressers, nice decor.
I had the most amazing hair wash, after the wash i was given a proper head massage, it was fabulous. I had a cut colour and blowdry and i was really impressed. Very friendly staff. The only downside for me was i had to go downstairs to wash the dye out and as you cant wear your glasses i slipped on the bottom step. So only a problem if your blind as a bat like me.

I have been going to Mad Lillies since it opened. Atul has looked after my hair and whether cutting, colouring, highlighting, tinting or blow drying it always looks amazing when he has finished. As part of the general hair wash, you always get a relaxing head massage- ask if you don't want one. Each client is treated professionally and with careful attention.  Incidentally coffee fab & loos spotless Just GO!

Ever since discovering this trendy little hairdressers my hair has been 'wow-ing' the world. Atul, my star hairdresser, has been highlighting my wild locks for two years now and I can whole heartedly say he is the most amazing stylist I've ever had (and I've been to a fair few in all corners of the world) Mad Lillies is a high class, attentive and bubbly salon which I highly recommend, try it out and see for yourself!

Fab service and great haircut. I went here when I used to live in Wimbledon. Sadly I've moved but I would drive the 50 miles to go back as I know that I will get a great colour and cut!

I went to this hairdresser as I have just moved in the area and I did not have time to go to my "usual" hairdresser in Shoreditch. I made the mistake of choosing the junior stylist and colourist. The colour was not up to scratch and I had to ask for it to be retouched (the colourist did not mention she made a mistake that I have promptly spotted as it was very obvious). I have a fringe and it was cut too short even if I have showed a picture to the stylist. Overall not a positive experience. The salon is very busy but I would suggest choosing a more experienced stylist/colourist. Not worth £90 at all as the stylist/colouris was very inexperienced. I would go back to my usual next time. The service is OK. just the female receptionist that is very abrupt and looks bored all the time. On the positive side the blow dry was excellent.

I’ve been a customer of Mad Lillies so long I can’t actually remember how I first found out about them.

Yes, the shop environment is attractive, the atmosphere good, they tend to run on time for appointments and there are probably alternative places that are slightly cheaper.

But for me, the bottom line is I always get an excellent haircut (from Atul) and that’s why I go back month after month, year after year.

Mad Lillies is incredible. Nobody has ever made my hair look so beautiful, and however hard I try, or much I spend, or where I go, it’s never the same!

Recently they coloured my hair (highlights) and i’ve been so pleased that I really recommend this hairdressers to anyone. The staff there are very friendly and the prices are affordable. You can ask for almost anything, and the stylists are always able to achieve it, leaving you looking gorgeous!
They use good quality products on your hair, and the whole procedure of washing/cutting/blowdrying is very professional.

Mad Lillies is definitely the best place in North London, let alone Hampstead for any hair requirements.

After moving to Hampstead 2 years I wanted to find a new hairdressers. I was a bit concerned that the local hairdresses might be a bit snooty. Someone recommended Mad Lillies so I gave it a go and I’ve been going there ever since. Everyone is very friendly and customer focused. When I’m sat in the chair with a head full of foils and doing a bit of people watching I can see that there are a lot of regulars who have really good relationships with their stylists. The stylists all appear to be pretty cool but there’s no ‘too cool for school-ness’ like you find in some other salons. I have my hair done with Atul and I’m always really pleased with the result. I happily recommend a visit there.

What can I say about this Salon that has not already been said?? – I first went there 3 years ago & straight away felt comfortable as the staff seem genuinely happy to see you.

The stylist (Savanna) who I’ve returned to every time actually listens to what you want, rather than just cutting the latest trends (toni & guy – take note!)

I travel from SW too which is quite a trek but I’m yet to be disappointed.

Keep up the great work guys.

Rich

I felt compelled to visit Mad Lillies for the first time after reading consistently 5 star reviews, completely setting my confidence in the salon beforehand. Although the people were welcoming and friendly, I specifically stated the maximum length of hair I wanted cut as well as showing a picture of a particular style I wanted (which also featured long hair). The stylist didn't listen to me - with regard to the particular style I wanted nor the length I wanted - and ended up cutting a huge amount (my hair was almost to the bottom of my back, it's now shoulder length). I am extremely dissatisfied, especially as the haircut wasn't cheap and, having had long hair for a long time, it is a significant change I hadn't intended or anticipated I would have to get used to. I usually find complaints about hair being too short slightly unconvincing as I believe it is necessary to state the length you are willing to have cut but in this case, I was extremely clear and am now left with a haircut I don't like.

i totally understand. This week at a Soho salon I politely, clearly, 100% DISTINCTLY STATED -
PLEASE do NOT CUT the front AT ALL! I’m growing it our – JUST level it at the BACK”.
The stylist assured me he understood – so I relaxed & we began conversing, laughing ….. BIG mistake!!! …..NEVER RELAX in a salon……NEVER TRUST an unknown stylist……
In 1 second flat, I took my eyes of the job in hand – AND BAM!!!
My cheek-bone level fringe was MASSACRED ! 2 inches ABOVE MY EYEBROWS!!!
THINK Joan of Arc ! & the BACK IS WONKY!!!
It seems some stylists are DELIBERATELY DEAF. IT’S an EVIL betrayal of trust.
    Simple as that.
I SO NEED to find a stylist who can DO A STYLISH, PRECISION CUT BOB, but have no clue who to trust —
IF ANYONE HONESTLY KNOWS A GOOD bob haircutter by name. PLEASE INFORM ME, – I cannot spare any more hair in DISASTERS!

  • natpan, 26 November 2012:

totally agree! Exactly what happened to me, now i have really dated and old fashioned short haircut, when i specifically said only 2inch off the bottom. hes taken 6 inches off to give me “the racheal cut” and short fringe not the sweeping centre parting i requested. And that was the senior stylists!!

Definitely the best salon in London for me!
I have been a client at Mad Lillies for the past 3 years and have never been disappointed. There is a great atmosphere with such friendly and attentive staff that really know what they are doing. Would definitely recommend their brazilian blow dry.
