5 stars because no option for 6 or more. What a gem of a place.Taylors ale (landlord-my favorite) on top form-mine host doing a very good Basil Fawlty impression and the icing on the cake ,outside toilets- life doesn’t get much better than this- i promise never to go in a Yates type bar again.
Mid July 2011. Walked with wife straight over top from Kettlewell, very strenuous. Excellent Timothy Taylors. Haven’t had beer served like this for ages. No complaints. Three pints, two for the wife. Did not eat, but others were enjoying ham sandwiches.
This is a classic old Yorkshire Dales pub, probably unchanged since before I was born (1952). No, they didn’t serve lager in those days, just good beer, so why try to keep up with modern times. Landlord OK. Chatty and interesting. Ladies clean, didn’t use gents.
Please keep spending your cash in this pub, to make sure it keeps going. Please. NO TAP WATERS. They need the cash, otherwise it will end up closed like many others.
Has anyone stayed overnight? Food? Rooms?
I have just enjoyed one my most memorable experiences at The Falcon Inn in Arncliffe.
If anyone is old enough to remember the film An American Weir Wolf in London I think I might be correct in thinking the director based his Yorkshire pub on the Falcon. What a wonderful place from a bygone era. We enjoyed good home-made cheese and onion pasties for lunch. A perfect pint of ale. A lovely conversation with the Landlord – a true Yorkshire wit, served by a beautiful French waitress. No flashy menus. Beer from cask to glass via porcelain jugs (poured from a height to gain a foaming head). I can’t wait to go again. If you intend going, go with an open and humble mind. And come away smiling.
Beautiful location and interesting pub,. Intended having one drink but we stayed for two drinks. The landlord was interesting and very friendly. He helped us plan a walk which was just right for distance and scenery. We will go back again and stay if dogs are allowed. You wouldn't get this type of place in a city, thank goodness for character.
I feel compelled to write a review having visited the Falcon recently. Words like "unique" are a touch misleading. My wife and I were both born and bred in Yorkshire but were unprepared for this experience. The Falcon is in a beatiful setting and looks lovely from the outside. Inside I don't think I am exaggerating to say that it resembles a scene from the league of gentlemen comedy series. The staff and clientelle were like a cross between something from a Hammer house of horrors film and Deliverance. The landlord is weird to say the very least. They did not have any ice when we visited, this is because they do not have a fridge in the bar, so yes the lager my wife had was as the landlord said is at an "ambient" temperature. The interior decor has a theme of dead animals and is absolutely filthy. The toilets are outside in a shed and absolutely stink, to get to them you had to walk past a box of old shoes (why?). It is truly an experience and probably worth going once just to see how bad it is, but don't go on a dark night!
kelvino51 oh dear think you'd be better suited to some sort of sterile characterless place like a Weatherspoons or a little chef....interesting that all the other reviews are 5 star...I think your comments say more about you than the Falcon....after reading this probaly best to wash your hands,,,,would,nt want you going down with a bug now!!!

This is a unique experience and one not to be missed. Although not the rght area, it reminds me of the pub scenes in the James Herriot TV series with sawdust and foaming ale served from jugs.
We took some visitors from Scotland to it and they were, I think the right word, is stunned.
No food was on offer when we went so I cannot comment on that. But the locals were friendly, the beer a joy.
This is a completely unique pub to my knowledge and is the most Yorkshire of places one could imagine. The beer is served straight from the barrel (invariably Taylors Landlord), which gives it an interesting texture, but the taste is as good as you could find anywhere.
There are rooms to be rented although I have not stayed in one as I am a local to the area. I ahve partaken in sandwiches here which are as plain as mud, but cost next to nothing.
A unique and 'interesting’ experience, even for the locals!
