If the place looks strange (another commentator’s remark) it’s because the environment’s dated. The 70’s ambience is not for youngsters, but it keeps prices down. Want a powerful drain unblocker on Sunday, at a reasonable price? similarly, a pine handrail or a sweeping brush. The staff can be a little slack, but what’s unusual about that nowadays? The service could be improved by better management, but let’s not lose this traditional type store.
Use them when you can.

I don’t know why but I always think this is a really strange place. Rather than a shop it’s a warehouse, with really poor lighting. Saying that it stocks everything you want (and more) in terms of DIY - all at reasonable rates. Big decorating section and when I went in the other day (during October) they had a good Christmas display. There is a lighting section upstairs also.

The staff are helpful enough and point you in the right direction, but are more than happy to keep you waiting at the till while they carry on their conversation. I also get the impression they mourn the passing of smoking in places of work!
