Everytime we go here we have a great night out. The bar staff are lovely and chatty and really go out of their way for you. Fantastic food expecially the sea food and steaks. Steven the manager is a fantastic host and I would really recommend a night out here.

mikwar8, 10 August 2012:
visited here recently, like other reviews food was really nice, prices are fair but the service was poor. I ordered pizza which i would always have spicy, however when i asked if they had chillies i was frowned at and told no... offered no alternative, not even asked if i would like to change my mind on the food i was about to order..

Our party of 6 adults & 5 children went to the restaurant on Saturday evening (15/1/11) to celebrate a special birthday, quite simply we found the food to be very good and the service to be very poor, main problem was the food order. We asked for the childrens meals to be brought with the adult starters, they arrived with the adult main meals and one childs meal was last to be brought out, when the food eventually arrived we found we had three main courses which were not ordered and had to be returned and the correct meals waited for again. The children had ice cream and we were given three different flavours to what had been ordered, all in all a shambles with the ordering or with the kitchen. On paying we complained and were told "well there is nothing we can do about it other than speak to the chef" Well there is something we can do about it and that is not go back, in addition, should Martinos be mentioned in conversation our experience will be relayed.

Shocked! Me and my mum went there one Friday night, the staff were nice enough but the service was poor and the food was alright.
The real problem I had, was that I didn't feel like I was in a proper Italian restaurant, like some sort of pub chain, there was no feel about the place, more quantity over quality, substance rather than style.
I can think of far better places to eat in the area, even if it means taking a bus ride into the city centre!

I was at Martino’s on Monday night for my birthday with a group of family and friends and had an amazing night
We had a drink in the bar first and then went into the restaurant for a meal - we were 20 minutes early for our booking but they didn’t mind and let us go straight in.
We shared a few starters and then the main meals were gorgeous and very generous portions, a variety of choice and prices depending on how flush you are feeling!
We ordered a couple of desserts and actually left the table and sat in the bar area on the comfy couches and they brought the desserts out as there was a Fantastic Rat Pack singer starting and we wanted to watch him so they continued to serve us at the bar table which was really lovely and relaxing
I will be back very soon!!!! Thank you Martino’s :-)

The food is ok, nothing special, the place is great for service unless they are busy, in which case they forget about you and you practically have to stand and wave for service!! they take complaints with a pinch of salt and look bored and uninterested when you tell them your opinions

Martinos is very mediocre in my opinion. The food is ok but it’s not fantastic and the atmosphere is not as good as what you would find in a local bistro. The prices seemed a little high for the quality of the food. The bar is good and is well stocked, but unfortunately the service was a little slack and I would not recommend here to dine. There are much better places in Sunderland for piza and pasta than here.

We have ate here many times now and have not yet been disappointed.
It is a very hard place to describe as it seems to be shared with a large bar and american pool place, but don’t let this put you off because there is a fantastic restaurant hidden inside. It is almost like stepping into another world inside the restaurant as it is themed like an old Italian village with little alcoves and private areas that break up the large area. The best thing (apart from the lovely food)is the fact that the tables are spaced in such a way that you get plenty of privacy when dining. The menu is large and starts quite cheap although the steaks seem a bit pricey.
Staff are fantastic and always make us feel more than welcome when we arrive. Can get very busy at weekends so if you don’t like waiting for your food I would recommend booking a midweek night. We visit weekends if with friends and weekdays if just the two of us.
We can’t speak highly enough for this place and would recommend it to anyone. 5 stars from us.

I have to agree with the other posts, we visit this restaurant on a weekly basis and love it. The food and staff are brilliant and the atmosphere is first class. One of the best things about this place is the fact they have a large bar and lounge attached and its great to have a couple of drinks after your meal instead of being rushed out like some other places. Staff can not do enough for us when we visit and we are always made to feel welcome. Reasonably priced, but great portions, we have never left feeling hungry.

I absolutely love this restaurant. Food is amazing and staff bend over backwards to make you happy. It can get very busy at weekends and I have waited for my meal longer than I expected, but when I asked the manager what the delay was he actually took me into the kitchen and showed me how all the food was cooked fresh to order and nothing was pre cooked. I try and take the wife and kids on a Monday night when they have a live rat pack singer on. The menu covers all our tastes ant the kids eat free before a certain time (6.30pm i think?) Anyway I have tried all of the restaurants in Town and in my oppinion this is by far the best and most consistent.
Jas..

This italian is located on the sea front in sunderland. It is well spaced out and can accomodate big groups and is suitable for couples. The food is lovely and the menu has a wide range of choice. Although alittle pricey i would still pay it as the portions are generous and lovely. There is a nice area where you can have a drink after your meal, the seating is comfortable and it is lovely to look out over the sea. There is good safe parking outside and is central if you wanted to go into sunderland city centre afterwards.

This a surprising restaurant on the sea front at sea burn. Located in the arcades is has a modern look and cosy atmosphere. There is a bar when you walk in which also has a modern feel and is very relaxed. The restaurant is quite big and well spaced out. They can accommodate large groups, but also have cosy corners for small groups. The food is a little more pricing that your average Italian but still not expensive. The food is very nice, although I have had a pasta bake which was a bit over cooked. My only complain would be the bread sticks instead of normal bread, and it can sometimes take a while to get your main meal.

Martino’s is a great italian restauraunt. It is located on the sea front at Seaburn beach, behind Jet amusements.
Rather cheap and with great service, the restauraunt includes 3 pool tables adjacent to a 4 sets of tables and chairs, ideal for taking children for a meal. They also do a 'happy birthday’ service, if your going out for anyones birthday they will get a cake for the individual and sing happy birthday, which can be very embarrassing!
