Roccos is weirdly out of place. Set in the heart of Norwich's fabulous entertainment area, it could not have a better location. It's surrounded by some excellent local bars, restaurants, and clubs. So it's such a shame to find that it exhibits such an arrogant attitude. Quite an unfriendly and unwelcoming place that may just as well have a sign above the door that just says 'OI! YOU! THERE'S A PERFECTLY GOOD BAR RIGHT NEXT DOOR!'

Rough isn't the word for it. Anyone who knows Norwich will be familiar with the slightly desperate, moderately balding, late-40-something male divorcees that give an unwelcome stare to inappropriately young girls in Chicago's on a Friday night. Well, this is where they go the rest of the time ... with their mates.

If you're a girl, you'll certainly be in the minority most evenings. If you're a guy, slap on the Old Spice, comb it over, lock up your swear-jar, and you'll fit straight in.

On the plus side, the decor is tasteful, the food is good and excellent value the two times we've eaten there. Don't expect the same value on the drinks.

Such a shame, it should be great, but I just don't think they care. If you want to see how it should be done, visit Essence on the opposite side of the road.

PROS: Superb food at good prices, central location, classy decor.

CONS: Attracts an unfortunate crowd, shady atmosphere, average punter age of 49.

The location of Rocco’s bar and restaurant is good being on Prince of Wales road – the nearest cheap car park is a multi story which is about 10 minutes walk away. The quality of food in the restaurant section of Rocco’s is good and the service from the waitresses is very friendly although the drinks are extremely overpriced for Norwich compared to other bars. On an evening, the story changes. The bouncers are very ‘selective’ about the type of people they let in – it would appear if you are under 25 they won’t let you in unless you are female and wearing a short dress (however questioning this with the manager soon worked). Recommended for food, but go elsewhere for drinks.
