Auberge at the kings head

My wife and I had a very pleasant evening in this (recent-ish) addition to the Marco Pierre White brand restaurant / bar. The manager and kitchen staff could not have been more amiable, friendly and attentive (although a quick online search of other, less-favourable, reviews may imply they are on a charm offensive..).

My pork belly was modest (I could more than handle a dessert afterwards) but very tasty, with excellent crackling. The midweek evening atmosphere was very relaxed, and the mood had been set by the front bar playing inoffensive muzak (Morcheeba, etc).

It was especially charming because of the eager-to-please staff, and mix and match offerings of set specials and regular menu. All in all, a light, airy, clean, gourmet brasserie – with just a tiny hint of hotel bar about it. The King’s Head proved a fine, well placed venue for a quiet, enjoyable meal and drink.

Good clean pub, BUT full of pretentios people who seem to think they are better than everyone else...
