Are you connwcted with the owners at all? If it was dirty and had a bad reputation why did you use it for 15 years.
Whenever i drive by in the late evening it looks empty and many people in the village will not go back in because of poor food and poor service.

Went to the Black Horse on Mother’s Day – the 1st time since it has been refubished. 6.30pm – nobody there, no atmosphere at all and handed a set menu for £25 (adult), £10 (child). We were not advised that it would be a set menu at the time of booking.
Staff very friendly and attentive. Lovely food but with not a lot of choice. If you work out the price for the food the £25 is what you would normally pay if you had a 3 course meal ie we were forced to have the 3 courses without anything further being added to it ie complimentary tea or coffee/glass of wine.
My 2 children (13 and 11) were charged the full price even though it said children £10 on the menu – no restrictions or details given on the menu but apparently the children’s menu was only 2 courses and smaller portions. We were not advised of this at the time of ordering.
With all of this in mind we will not be recommending the Black Horse to friends and we will not be returning as there are far better pubs with far better food/prices and atmosphere in this area.

I just read below of some bad reviews black horse has been recieveing and i totally disagree. Since the new management has taken over the place had definetly improved in everyway, food, service, staff and even the look of the place. I often go there with my parents and we always leave happy so i dont understand how it can score badly.
Keep up the good work Black Horse.

My name is James Smith, I have been going in the Black Horse Elton for 15 years now. The new owners and management took over 6 months ago and what they took over? One dirty , empty place with very bad reputation. Everybody worked hard for it to make it better and I have to say they`ve done really good job. I am going there every day for years and I can see the change. Unfortunatelly not a lot of people appreciate people hard work.
Well Done to the new management and I wish you achive more and more !

Are we talking about the same place? Three real ales you can get in almost any pub in the Peterborough area does NOT constitute a good selection in anyone's books. I've been in 3 times since it changed hands and met with rude and arrogant behaviour on the part of the people running it on two occasions and a place devoid of customers on the third - and this was at 21.30 on a summer Saturday evening. I went to the other pub in the village where there were 5 real ales and a cider, a full restaurant and about 2 dozen drinkers. Twelve months ago the Black Horse was full on a Saturday - why isn't it now?

Obviously you made your profile only only to comment this place. I have to say , you are absolutely wrong. This Saturday I was there as well and the place was buzzing.. May be not so many drinkers but there were full with dinners. The place is reaching better level, approving nice food and service.

I'm sure the place is improving, at least, I HOPE it is - but I was extremely disappointed at my last visit. From the comments on this website I had expected better. I certainly did NOT expect an empty establishment. In nearly 40 years of drinking there, it has only been under these tenants that I have found it so. By the way, on my previous visit I was very upset to have my drink (served in the correct glass) snatched out of my hand and tipped into another one without so much as a 'by your leave'. It will be some time before I visit the place again.
Not only was the pub empty when I last visited, so was the car park (except for the barman's vehicle), the dining room and the garden. It was not particularly welcoming and in my opinion, still has no atmosphere - the aroma of fresh paint, but no atmosphere.

BTW, James780, if I signed up to comment – you signed up to rebut them! I agree with Punkster (see above) that you give the impression you are connected with the current management – and why go there before if it was as bad as you say?

The Black Horse Elton must be one of Peterborough's greatest pubs - if not THE best! I've been going there at least once a week for the past four years and have never had a disagreeable experience. EVERY member of staff and management treat you like a valued friend and although I'm not a real-ale drinker their range of ale and guest-ales looks fantastic .

I went for a meal at The Black Hotse last Friday night with a group of friends. This was the first time since it had re-opened with it's old name. It is still lovely inside and very clean. The food was excellent (agreed by all on our table!) and so was the service. The portions were very generous as you would expect in a country pub! It was very reasonably priced. I am looking forward to going again soon!"

I just came back from the Black Horse. We had our Christmas Party there. It was spot on. Brilliant staff and food. So much attention we haven`t had anywhere else. It was our first visit here and it is not going to be the last definately. We really enjoyed it.

I have to say that after the refurbishmen on October this place look really decent and sophisticated. The prices are really reasonable and worthed. Very good services and excellent food. The open fires make the atmosphere so uniques. Highly recommended !!!!!!

Really pleased this place has been refurbed, changed owners or whatever has happened because now it's a really nice place to go and the food is great. makes it arguably one of the best in the neighborhood. And a place that should easily appear on every pub lover's top ten in peterborough& stamford.

I would wholeheartedly disagree with "takeachance"'s review and can only think things have changed in the last 2 years somewhat.
I've just come back from an absolutely dire meal which cost £20 a head for a small glass of wine, an (obviously, previously frozen) chicken escalope coated in Schwartz cajun mix and pre-cut chips and a chocolate tart made out of the cheapest possible chocolate (like very bad cooking chocolate) served with a blob of something that looked like ice-cream, but wasn't frozen, wasn't fresh cream and wasn't butter cream.
The surroundings were dirty - in fact my boyfriend had to remove a dirty napkin from under his chair. We were sat in a corner with a bad spotlight glaring down on us. The arrangement on the fireplace was worn and tatty, faded paper flowers, covered in dust, dull brasses and some dodgy plastic tray painted with flowers.
All I can say was that the company was lovely - but I do regret not walking out and heading to Loch Fyne down the road instead. I had really fancied a nice cosy pub meal :(

This is withiut a doubt the best gastro pub within 5 miles of Pboro and well worth the journey. The food here rivals many top restaurants and the atmosphere is everything you could hope for of a local village pub. It has an extensive menu which will leave you spoilt for choice, and appeals to all tastebuds and ages. We’ve taken the children and they always feel welcome. Price wise it is on the higher end of the scale but this is justified by the food and service. 10/10!
