Lovely wee pub! Friendly, warm and welcoming to everyone who walks in. Run by a lovely family! Drink prices are really cheap in comparison to other bars just up the road. Quiz nights and a juke box & customers of all ages! Would definitely recommend!
friendly and cosy atmosphere, brilliant bar staff – a good laugh! Great drinks deals. Food was delicious will be back.

They serve food here, they show live sports here including football matches. On their outside walls are a clock, old-style lanterns and flower baskets.
You can buy both ales and malt whiskys here, you can make use of their outdoor seating, newspapers to borrow and read, at 9 on thursdays is their quiz, payphone, minimum transaction to use their card payment facilities is £5
Cracking wee pub, does what it says on the tin.
Loads of beers/ales, decent prices, cheap food (£1.50 toasties/£2.00 hot dogs!), sky on the telly, seat normally available.
Great bar if you fancy a pint and somewhere to chat with a mate for while.
4 stars!
This is a great little local, just round the corner from Cannonmills. Definitely one for locals only, but not in an unwelcoming way. I have been there a few times, either to watch football on the 3 big tvs, or for a few quiet drinks. They don’t have a full food menu but do have toasties or pies as options. It’s a small pub with 2 entrances and a round bar in the middle, with 6 or so tables at either side of the bar. It doesn’t usually get too busy, plus a lot of the locals prefer to stand or sit at stools at the bar, so we’ve always managed to get a table.
Smithies is a quirky traditional alehouse nestled in amongst rows of traditional tenement flats in the Canonmills area of the city.
Smithies is a great pub and always bursts with character, attracting locals and visitors to the nearby Banana Row recording studios alike to make for an interesting mix of clientele. The bar has a great selection of beers, lagers and Real ales on draft and has plenty of trasitional bar snacks if you’re peckish. All in it’s very reasonably, particularly considering its proximity to the city’s most expensive bars a stones through away in the New Town.
All in a great local watering hole.

Great little pub. Good selection of beers on draft and the atmosphere is great. Thursday holds a pub quiz. A pint is 2.75 and toasties are available throughout the day and evening. Closing time is 12. Good pub that is easily accesible but is quite small - a bit too small for a large group to visit.
