it was VERy VERY busy.. almost too busy for comfort. but it was a weekend just outside chester centre so i guess that wasnt such a shock really.
we were quite surprised at the cost of the sunday carvery. nearly £10 for a regular adult carvary.
We had 3 children with us so figured as they eat childrens plates we would just sit and eat anyway.
Our waitress was very pleasant and told us about a childrens plate deal... a kids plate with a fruit shoot drink and pudding included for £5.
We happily agreed and sent the kids to go and get their food while we waited at the table to watch the coats and bags.
the kids have often ate at the warrington toby and go and get their own meals, the chefs always i've them kids plates or ask them if the want kids or regular plates.
the waitress came with the kids drinks and ours and then as the kids came back to the table we noticed they had regular adult plates, the waitress noticed too and told us she couldnt offer us the deal due to this fact... we asked why would the chef offer a child aged 7 (and he is quite tiny built too 0an adult plate at all!?) ..
we questioned the kids and they said the server has said to them "kingsized or regular?" .. that was all he offered.. do being kids they had no clue and thought regular meant small.. - which i would have too.
I complained to the waitress about this saying this was not right..
she said sorry but the server probably made the error as normally they only serve kids plates til 10.30 am... so sorry about that.
??? 10.30 am? do kids stop eating carvery at that time of the morning?
errr.. she was the one that offered us the deal! it was now 12.30pm...
??
the kids ate half a plate, the littlest ate a fraction ( hence we normally only get them small plates ).. and we paid £51 for the thrill of this over crowded messed up visit!
Turkey was dry.. gravy tasteless.. broccoli dried up. No potatoes when we got there so had to wait then gave up as the rest of the food was getting cold.
Would never go again due to no one at the restauarnt taking any blame for this mistake even though it was an offer made to us by a staff member and not offered to 3 kids at the serving area.. how do kids know what to say really... should have offered us half the money back at least.
Pretty flabergasted to be frank.
Won'trecommend it to any one in the future I'm afraid.
this is a fantastic place to eat. it is £7. and you choose you meat or have a bit of eat, then help yourself to as much veg as you like, there is always a big amount of veg to choose from.
nice and friendly staff.
on a sunday it is £9. and is more busy and usually you have to wait for a table, but ive never waited more than 20 mins.
food is always nice, hot and cooked to the way i like it.
its a sunday roast every day there, but there is other types of food you can irder too if you didnt fancy a carvery.

A regular eating place for me & my partner. Never been disappointed there. Our family (20+ members) are having a pre Xmas meal here. I wouldn't have arranged to have it here if I didn't have complete confidence in the place.

This Place holds many fond memories for me. The food is simply amazing and its shocking the place can turn a profit with the amount of food you can get on the plate! I am of course referring to the car-very. Turkey, beef, pork, sage and onion, huge yorkshire puds, onion gravy, normal gravy, every condiment under the sun, roast potatoes, boiled potatoes, sprouts, carrots, peas, runner beans, just about everything! And it all fits on the plate without fail. If you are recovering from a hard week or just have an incredibly large appetite then do not go anywhere else! A truly awesome venue, with plenty of parking and okay prices. Well worth a visit.

Like most Toby carverys, this is a nice place to get a good roast dinner! What I love most about this place is the layout, the bar is totally separate to the eating area (having said that you can choose to eat bar food in the bar area). It is always very popular here on a Sunday, so be prepared to wait! But you could argue that it is worth it and if you know you’ll have to wait, it isn’t as bad. There are plenty of good wines and beers to keep you entertained whilst you wait. There is an innkeepers lodge attached to the restaurant, so it’s also good for a cheap overnight stay in Chester. Good value for money and good quality food.

Located just outside of Chester city centre towards the Mickle Trafford area, the toby carvery is attached to a motel which is a good place to stop over if you are visiting Chester and would prefer to stay in a chain instead of one of the bed and breakfasts on Hoole Road. The Carvery otherwise known as The Royal Oak is immensely popular with the locals thoughout the week aswell as at the weekend. The beauty is the price which can be between £5 and £8 for a serving of the carvery which includes turley, ham and beef with a veggie option along with a host of veggies which usually include caluliflower cheese, roasted parsnips, broccoli, yorkshire puds and roast potatoes. Of course there’s gravy on hand to top it all off!
