Aurum is a fantastic little independent jewellers in South Croydon. I remember walking past it as a child and always wanting to look in the windows at the beautiful pieces, and now as an adult I still can’t resist stopping to stare in at all the beautiful things on display.
Aurum is a working goldsmiths, with a little workshop out the back where they make everything, a fact which instantly makes them ten-times more appealing than the brightly lit chain jewellers you will find in the town centre, where the staff are just sales machines, rather than experts. At Aurum, they are on intimate terms with metal and precious stones, and you can go in and buy something gorgeous off the shelf, get them to remodel something you already have, or get something bespoke made, and they will be knowledgeable and helpful throughout.
I’ve got some Aurum bits which I was given for my 18th birthday, and they are still going strong (I won’t tell you exactly how many years later), my Dad has a pair of their frog cufflinks, which are still his favourites after 15 years of wearing them, and my brother has bought all manner of things from there for his wife - from those first teenage presents, to the ring he gave her on their wedding day.
