Popplewells used to be amazing with the Leskes at the helm and this ties in with the dates of your good reviews. They were so helpful and nothing was too much bother. How times have changed!!! I needed costumes for a show and the first time I went it was closed for renovations – fair enough. The second time it was open but the man in charge was so disorganised he could not find me what I wanted. He said he would find them and call me. Three days later I got a call. I then went three times and each time it was shut. I then phone him and he said he was sorry and that he would be open the next day with my costumes. I went along the next morning and he told me he didn’t actually have the costumes but they would be in that afternoon. I told him of my displeasure as he had told me he had them but he didn’t seem to care. I left feeling a little annoyed then returned the next day. He then told me that because I had left without confirming I still wanted them he hadn’t bothered to get them in!!! I now had a show in four days time and no costumes so I got in touch with a wonderful company called Utopia in Dundee who couriered beautiful costumes to me the next day. I have been putting on shows for fourteen years and have regularly used Popplewells as I like to support local companies but after this I will not be back!!!!

Popplewells is awesome, the staff are great and super helpful. They have loads of costumes to choose from, if you are looking for something for halloween get there early - like september, costumes get booked very quickly and they take a tiny deposit to keep it for you. They sell wigs and accessories too

This is good little shop that you can hire out fancy dress cotumes. The have a wide range of different costumes and can provide a costume for every occasion. For a charity event i recently had to hire a victorian dress. I got my costume here as it is Ayr’s only fancy dress hire shop and i had been given a recommendation to go here as the costumes are always of a high quality and at good prices. I found the dress was really great and dwas of a high fabric and made me feel so elegent. Also the prices were also really good and i was aloud to take up a hem as the dress was little too long with me being quite short. The staff i found really helpful and friendly.

This is Ayr’s only fancy dress hire shop. The choices are endless and the service these peopple provide is second to none. A family run business that really want everything to be just right for you. They have something for every occasion from James Bond to what I dressed up as at Halloween recently- a drag queen costume and at 6ft 5 I certainly got a few looks. This place is has so much so why not pop in and see for yourself.
