i have to completely dissagree with the other review of this place.
i went there with my dinner date and the food was awful.
the vegetables appeared to be from a frozen bag, they tasted that way - the cold drinks were not cold.
my potatos were under cooked and hard, there was also too much water transfered from the boiling pot onto my plate.
overall - very poor - even though not overly expensive.
no amount of salt could fix the problem of blandness in the food.
to give you an idea of how poor it was, we both needed to go elsewhere and have something small just to give our taste buds more hope.
It tasted like dishwater - no joke. terrible food, was too embarrassed to even complain.
also - the lunch menu is so so boring. this is the worse eating places in chester in my opinion. One of the options was pasta penne with peas??
who puts peas with Pasta? certainly nothing hintingly med about that, and for a good reason - -it doesnt work.
Horth What a strange and inaccurate review! If you really ate at the Bistro and were really dissatisfied you SHOULD have complained. I eat there regularly and I know they take all complaints seriously and would have dealt with them. Occasionally things are not quite up to standard and in my experience there is no issue with sorting genuine problems out. You have some facts completely wrong e.g. the penne pasta was served with red peppers, aubergine, courgettes and mozzarella; I understand the vegetables are all cooked from fresh, and to say that the food was unseasoned suggests you had a strong cold and could not taste! So, perhaps you are either a weirdo, someone with a grudge or a competitor? Whatever, your reasons your review does not match with the experience of the vast majority of diners, such as my wife and I, who eat at the bistro.

Despite it’s diminutive size and slightly “out of the way” location the Village Bistro in Hoole is possibly one of the finest eateries in Chester. The food is beautifully cooked and the service is second to none. The staff are very knowledgeable about the food they serve and will deal with any inquiries or questions with a smile.
The menu is best described as modern British with slight hint of the Mediterranean. Expect to pay around £5/6 for a starter and £15 for a main course.
...if they have guinea fowl on the menu, I suggest you order it. It is gorgeous.
