This has really improved since last year. It’s always been in a lovely spot for a summer walk or bike ride, but now its food is well worth popping over for an evening, and is a bit more likely to create a longer pause in your Sunday afternoon walk or put an end to your energetic explorations!
It’s got a bit of an air of old country pub, although it’s far from snobby, and it’s so lovely and peaceful. It can get busy at weekends, so it’s worth booking if there are lots of you going set on eating, but it’s worth visiting just for the atmosphere. The staff are friendly without being obtrusive, the service is good and the prices are reasonable. All in all, a great place to go no matter what the situation: a meal out after a romantic walk, a catch-up natter with friends, a treat for oyur parents or even just a place to relax on your own for a bit.
superb setting by river - roads nowhere near, so peaceful and country-like setting despite being easy and pleasant walk from city centre.
had venison stew which was awesome, homemade style, extremely tasty, served with soft freshly baked bread.
didn’t try any beer, but will definitely be back to do so.
