Review of The Bakehouse from 5 November 2011

We went there for dinner in late September, 2011. Both the menu plus the specials board offered a great choice of dishes. The food was excellent, there is nothing to complain about. My pudding was a bit strange, a ‘blackberry crumble’ served chilled in a glass, I must admit I had expected a typical British hot fruit crumble with custard. Anyway, the taste was great. The staff were very friendly and helpful. One thing I really want to complain about: It was much too hot in the restaurant, it was fully booked and there was a lack of fresh air which made us really sweat.

Had a great evening at the Bake house (June 2011) we were seated upstairs and enjoyed friendly efficient service throughout the meal.

I enjoyed the Falmouth Scallops, followed by the Lamb both were just perfect.

Would recommend the BakeHouse to anyone visiting Penzance

Well prepared food in a pleasant environment only let down by slight pretension in menu and seemingly untrained waiting staff.

Trendy but tasteful decor, delicious cocktails, and delicious food.

We shared some bread and olives to start (quite enough to share for a starter) and the bread was certainly home cooked - really tasty with layers of poppy seeds and crushed chillies. Nice olives, and a balsamic reduction/olive oil dip.

For my mains I had rump steak with a wine, garlic and mushroom sauce, and chips. We shared a bowl of seasonal veg which had kale, leeks, and baby carrots (which tasted amazing - boiled with cumin/coriander in there somewhere).

The steak was cooked well, and was nice and tender, with just the right amount of sauce.

I finished with a raspberry Martini, which was made with freshly whizzed raspberries. Delicious!

Review of The Bakehouse from 28 October 2009

We visited here on our holiday based on great reviews. We were not dissapointed, hidden just off Chapel Street this is a gem of a restaurant. the service was a little slow but can be put down to a suprised influx of people on a wet Wednesday evening in mid-October. The Thai Monkfish for starter is recommended along with the prawns and also the bread and olives. Really liked the idea of rubbing the steaks with spices which were delicious and my rump steak was a bargain and one of the best steaks I have eaten. The bill was reasonable as well for a group of 5. Friendly staff and a must visit restaurant in Penzance.

Family run restaurant with the best food and service in town. Small and friendly. I have been a regular patron for a while and am never dissapointed. Go, just go.

Review of The Bakehouse from 17 January 2009

This restaurant is situated in the famous Chapel Street area in Penzance. Offering locally caught fish, and several meat dishes, with a good wine selection, it is a great place to go for an evening meal with friends or business associates. The menu is kept relatively short to ensure only freshly cooked ingredients are available. This sometimes leads to certain dishes being unavailable, but the choice should ensure no one goes hungry. The owner is the chef, and his wife, the co-owner, the main waitress. Very friendly atmosphere, the layout is on 2 levels. The bar has a great selection of well known brands of beers and other alcoholic drinks, plus some Cornish beers too. Something for everyone. Expect to pay approximately £20 to £30 for 2 courses at dinner.
