The Marquis at Alkham

This pub set in a great country location and the ideal place for a Sunday dinner out. The food the serve is excellent in both taste and price. The wine list has been thoughtfully produced with a large selection to suite everyone’s taste.

You would be best booking in advance if you are going for sunday lunch as it can get very busy. The prices for the rooms seem reasonable and if you are not local its an ideal place to stay for the weekend.

The staff are friendly and the bar offers a good selection of beers and and ales.

This has been completed renovated and the upstairs living accomodation turned into 5 stylish and simply stunning rooms. The decor is modern and contemporary without being “hyper trendy” and it has a relaxed and fresh feel as soon as you walk in. The staff are mostly young but keen and friendly. The wine list is astonishing a wide and intelligent selection from new worlds to classics. But by far the best bit is the food! I have been for lunch twice and both times the quality was outstanding. Local produce is very much to the fore, I had chicken liver pate, which was so beautifully presented in a little glass kilner jar, and then a roasted filet of cod with a very delicate sauce. Both times I was treated but there is a £13 per head set lunch or you can order ala carte. Friends have been in the evening and say its just as nice. Well worth considering for a weekend away with friends if you dont live near by.
