Restaurant Saigon

When I moved to Wiesbaden I’d generally stayed clear of eating Asian food. I’ve lived most of my life in Singapore and Malaysia and have had the pleasure of eating some of the best Asian food in the world.

I was always so disappointed by the Westernised Asian food I found everywhere and almost wanted to give up.

At Saigon I can tell you that there is no Westernisation of their food. I was in Vietnam on a backpacking trip back in '97 and what landed on my table in Saigon was definitely authentic.

The restaurant is sadly a little small and tight which is why I took off one star. However, for the cost, the food is great.

Be adventurous and try things other than rice+coconut milk combos. You won’t be disappointed!

OMG. Absolutely excellent! Authentic flavour, fast service and very economic!!! This restaurant is among the very best I have ever been to. Absolutely delicious, it does everything right. Normally exotic restaurants attempt to adapt their dishes to the European palate, which to me is a deadly sin. In the Saigon they really do prepare dishes in authentic style, which means also authentic spice (and I love spicy food). So if you can’t handle spice, if you don’t like travelling, or if you don’t appreciate food from other cultures, then you are better off going elsewhere. I love this place and will be back for sure!
