Recommended by a friend sometime ago and since then we have been several times.
It is part of a chain (Chef & Brewer) but you wouldn’t think it.
The food is always really tasty and the portions are plentiful. The service is friendly and fast and the views from the extension at the back of the pub are fantastic.
It’s a very popular pub and gets busy very quickly - especially on the weekend which can be a problem when parking - there are steps to correct this though as there is an overflow car park now. That said the car park and the pub are not huge - it still retains a friendly atmosphere.
There’s plenty of places for the kids to run outside in the summer and as it’s situated in a small village it’s fairly safe.
We have had normal pub grub, Sunday lunches and recently a set Christmas meal. All of which were good value for money, well cooked and very tasty.

The Green Man is situated in the village of Offley perched on the top of a hill about 3 miles outside Hitchin. It’s definitely a pub that specialises in eating. There’s a large wintergarden part out the back with lots of tables in and a small beer garden with great views across the valley towards Hitchin.
The menu is huge and supplemented by a massive 'specials’ board that changes from week to week. The selection of real ales is pretty impressive to and they seem well kept and in good condition. The wine list is extensive and should cater for most tastes.
It’s a popular place and despite the large car park it can get difficult to find a space at peak times. You’ll need to book ahead at these times too if you want to guarantee a table.
The food is good, if a trifle overpriced in my opinion. The staff are friendly and the service is swift. If you’re looking to eat in a country-style pub you could do a lot worse than pay a visit to the Green Man.
