They were playing Magic FM. I don't mind the music but the talking on the radio is annoying in a pub setting and the adverts even more so.
Now that Simon and Emma run the Lugger in Polruan it is a good pub. Very busy. Good Food. Excellent Sunday Carvery has now started 23rd October. Just the job if you are staying in the village, but no good if you are from Fowey and want and evening meal as the ferry stops by seven.

Pub has new landlords and they are much better when it comes to the menus!! Food excellently prepared by a professional chef who obviously really knows what he’s doing! Absolutely marvellous atmosphere, very welcoming and relaxing with a really great selection of on tap beer, ales etc. Staff cheerful and very helpful. Definitely on my favourite places to eat in cornwall list now but worth booking ahead as the secrets getting out!!

Actually no. My husband and I ran the Russell Inn for four and a half years, the other pub in Polruan, before taking over the Lugger in July. You will find, if you read previous review for the Russell Inn, we often have good reviews as we both work long hours and strive to achieve providing excellent food, beer and service. Because of the success we’ve had, we don’t feel we need to comment, other than to cynics like yourself, on review sites.

Qype is about giving an honest review, and that’s exactly what I did!! What’s cynical about that?.. Isn’t that what I’m meant to do?
What’s ‘cynical’ about reporting a rather unfriendly pub, rubbish food AND a bullying racist?
If you read my first comment, you will discover it was made on 13 October 2009, almost 2 years before YOU took over, so if you weren’t the landlady at the time, you’ve nothing to worry about have you? And if you don’t feel you need to comment other than to ‘cynics’ like myself…… then DON’T!!!…Obviously you’re SO successful……. you don’t need to!!
The food in this pub was absolutely awful!! We tried it on 3 occasions, just in case they were having a bad day, but it just got worse!!
We gave up in the end, and started eating at Polruan's other pub. It was a nicer pub all round. Friendlier, good food, and helpful staff.

Out of date. From July 2011 now run by Simon and Emma who were running the Russel, so this review is useless. See old reviews of the Russel

We visit Polruan regularly, but avoided this pub, not just because of the lousy food, but we overheard the landlord making racist remarks. (My Husband is black)!! We look forward to going back into the Lugger now he’s gone, although we heard he’s now got the little shop on the quay, and he’s missing a front tooth!! (Maybe he upset the wrong black person this time). So, it’s thumbs up for the Lugger, but thumbs down for the shop on the quay…….(Winklepicker)?
This is a fantastic pub in the cornish village of polruan, it is situated on the quay where the ferry from Fowey docks. The menu is your usual pu grub, with a specials board and a good selection of fish. The shepherds pie is really good, as is the fish crumble. The prices are low and the meals of a good standard. The bar has a good choice of lagers and a range of local beers from the local St. Austell brewery. They also serve decent coffee. The interior is a bit tired in the bar area, however, there is an elevated dining area with a serving/ordering counter. The pub also has a pool table and a dart board. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the service excellent. Highly recommended.
