High flyer

We visited this pub on a lunchtime, a group of 14 children and 15 adults, we received a very warm welcome by the landlord and landlady. We had phoned through our orders previously and asked that we get them for a specific time. All the food started being delivered to the tables within 5 minutes of the last person sitting down. The food was piping hot and fantastic value for money. The portions were huge and the children were all stuffed at the end of the meal. For a friendly service with great quality value for money food do not miss The High Flyer!!

Nice place, good food and not too expensive.

Went for the Sunday carvery: food was really quite nice, staff and the whole experience less so. For instance: the carvery is a strictly one-visit only affair: they don’t tell you this directly, but will charge for an extra portion at the end if you go back instead. This explained why the more experienced patrons piled their plates with minor mountains of food which will mostly go cold. As a friend put it: “The High Flyer, essentially, should not be seen as a carvery but as a restaurant that forces you to plate up your own meal.”

Staff were alternatively surly, sarky or rude also: watching the staff wipe down the cheap disposable tablecloth seemed to underline the slightly mean-spirited feel of the place. Maybe we had a bad day, but there’s no reason to try again for us.

This pub near the sports centre in Ely is very nice, but the best thing about it is the food! I don’t remember ever eating such nice sausage and mash in a pub! They also have those huge crisp packets and comfy seats. The staff is friendly and they even have an outside seating area.
