Review of Grandma Pollards Fish & Chips from 12 July 2012
Where do I begin? Visiting Grandma Pollards chippy was a great experience! Loved the food, loved the location, and loved the fact you could eat your chips on a renovated bus! (Best fish batter in the country too). Best of all was the friendly staff, it's refreshing to see young people working there, with such delightful manners and service both in the resteraunt and the shop. We were sat down quickly considering we had no idea where to go (a massive queue was completely expected, but was handled efficiently), very helpful and free tea refills from a friendly waitress, hot food on hot plates brought by smiling staff.

Prices at the steep end but worth every penny.

The Food is delicious and really good variety, only problem was I was in a hurry one evening and rang in my order, which was accepted without question but when i went to pick it up I was accused of queue jumping by a member of staff, he shouted it out in front of everyone. If they don't take phone orders they should say so when you ring. It spoiled a good experience : (

What a place! Different to any other fish and chip shop you’ve ever visited. The fish and chips are excellent, and you can either take them away conventionally, or eat in. They have an old bus which has been converted with tables and chairs - place your order at the counter, sit in the bus, and your food will be served in a few minutes. They do other food too, but to be honest I’ve never tried anything, being madly in love with the fish and chips. You can have a really good day out by having lunch here then wandering to Gordon Riggs Garden Centre up the road. Parking is a bit tight at busy times, but it is worth it. Or you could even come by train - get off at Walsden.

...This is probably the best fish & chip shop in Yorkshire, and maybe even the whole of the North West!

In February 2008, it was awarded 5 stars * for 'food hygiene’. The shop has been going for 50 years, & 'Tony’ the owner developed his passion for good - 'old fashioned home-cooking’, by watching his Parents (the original owners).

The food is home-made on the premises & customers can choose from a range of pies, rag puddings, & of course, fish & chips! (Small portions available & children are also catered for).

People travel for miles, just to sample the cuisine & if you have room, you can also indulge yourself with one of the home-made sweets that are available, also.

There are dining-in facilities & there is even an old 'Bus’ at the back - where you can go & sit in & eat.

On a nice day, you can even go & sit by the Rochdale Canal & eat, where a few tables & chairs have been placed. ....but watch out for the ducks!!!

This is a very busy & popular shop, but the staff are very friendly & organised, so your wait is minimal. And at least your food is being cooked, as you wait - so you can guarantee that it will be fresh & hot.

...I love the fish, with chips - and they will also give you 'scraps’, if you ask for them!!

They will also, provide you with warm plates & cutlery - but I love to just eat them out of the wrapper, for maximum effect!

...go on - it may be a drive, but it will definately be a great experience & you will not be disappointed with the fresh, home-made cooking @ Grandma Pollards! :o)
