some of the seating is very uncomfortable esp. circle front row
buy stalls and you will enjoy the show more

The Theatre Royal is a nice theatre which puts on quality shows, however I do think you need to careful when booking seats. My wife and I once booked seats in Row A of the upper Circle. Never again, the legroom was awful, the worst I have experience in any theatre in the UK, and in addition the floor slopes, so one side of your body is a couple of inches higher than the other side. I was in so much discomfort that I could not enjoy the show and was desperate for it to finish. My wife who is only 5ft 3 inches thought the space was tight and I myself am only 5ft 10, so we are not exactly giants. Since then we have always booked in the stalls, which are not that expensive particularly if you go for a seat at the back or side. For the discount you get from the top price seats these are very reasonable.

What negatives are there about the Theatre Royal in Nottingham? In my opinion… none. The electirc atmosphere is absolutely tops when you walk into the auditorium. plenty of refreshemnt are available with bars, and even the Green Room restaurant for pre-theatre dinners.
With all manners of shows, with an excellent Thriller season in August and the star-studded panto. The Theatre Royal should never be off your things to visit list.
I love it

The Theatre Royal is Nottingham’s ‘traditional’ theatre and has an attractive, atmospheric auditorium. As befits an older theatre, leg (and elbow) room is limited and the seats start to become a little uncomfortable after about an hour. The majority of seats have a decent view. As with other mainstream provincial theatres, the shows are fairly populist in nature, with lots of famous TV names in evidence. A major draw is the yearly pantomime, which is always a lavish, fun production. Ticket prices for shows generally are not especially cheap, and, once refreshments and parking at the local multi-storey have also been taken into account, a night out at the Theatre Royal can prove to be quite expensive.
