Review of Woodhorn Grange from 17 September 2010

This place is going down hill fast, a real shame. It is a family pub, a premier inn, does good bar food, has a children's area inside & out, nice setting on the lake but it seems to have got worse now that it is a Premier Inn when it should be getting better! I have spoken with many regulars and most seem to feel the same. It is mainly down to two things..

1) You now have to queue at the bar to order food along with other people wanting drinks. This means a very long wait on a busy day. This is ridiculous. In the past they had a separate area for ordering food, the area is still there but not made us of! it makes NO SENSE! This is turning away customers because people push inline, stand at various ends of the bar, it is a nightmare. I have seen the tension building with my own eyes and the barmaids will still go from one end of the bar to the other instead of sticking with the so called queue. You could go into the pub for a drink on a Sat/Sun and spend most of your time queuing behind all the diners - who wants that, just to get a drink? God forbid you go here for a special occasion. Surely the staff must be fed up of telling people to queue up when you want a drink? The whole set up is embarrassing. I don't even come here that often and it used to be my local! I am fed up of queuing behind lots of diners just to get a drink of orange for my child!

2) Certain staff members can't raise a smile. 1 in particular who has been there a good while, you can't even make conversation with her. I wonder why she is still working there because she always look so miserable. You're worried to say anything to her and this is not a good way for a barmaid to be! This is not a one off, it is every time we go - it's the same face. Rude to customers, ask a normal question and you get shrugged off! Are barmaids not supposed to be sociable/happy people? The rest of the staff are lovely, chat to you about anything, always smiling, always willing to help, but the one behind the bar? not a chance.

Get rid of the miserable barmaid, bring back the separate ordering and this is a great place.

A great bar/restaurant - part of the Brewsters chain. There is a good range of drinks available and a great menu to choose from. Prices of food could be better for what get but food is nice to eat be again could be better. Kids are allowed in for meals and there is an area for kids to play with a basic soft play although this can be spoilt slightly by bigger kids running wild and any small children getting hurt. A nice place to go with family be is pricey for what get. It is located right next to the QEII lake so always the option to go for a walk around the lake after also.
