Portsmouth city museum is in my opinion one of the most gorgeous buildings in the city.
It hosts regular and special exhibits.
The regular exhibits include the history of Portsmouth, art displays, Arthur Conan Doyle/Sherlock Holmes, life through the ages from a 17th century bedroom to a 1950’s living room.
It is worth keeping up to date on any special exhibits you might be interested in as the regular exhibits are not really worth visiting on their own repeatedly!
The Records Office is in the same building and holds the official records of Portsmouth City Council from the 14th century!
During school holidays lots of events such as magicians and story telling are held for the children mostly in a Marquee outside.
There is a gift shop, small tea room, and toilet facilities, and of course entrance is free.
