Review of The Cricketers from 29 December 2008 (updated on 4 January 2009)

This place as a new name dont ask me what, as the sign looks like jives, but im told thats wrong but anyhow most know it as the Cricketers, and sadly in my opinion it gone of course, when I visited it there was one other person in there, that was the barmaid, who I am sorry to say had to put her newspaper down to serve me,but she quickly returned to it,so I only had one drink as I didnt want to disturb her,it as two nice open fires and very low furniture, which did look uncomfortable,im told it does get busy quite late but I didnt hang around,I was pleased to see it had real ale pumps, but soon found out no ale available, not a place I would put myself out to visit again New name Jans

Review of The Cricketers from 27 November 2008

This pub is just around off Stoke Newington High Street and looks from the outside (and on the inside) slightly intimidating. It certainly doesn’t marketing itself to the Stoke Newington urbanites. However its actually an alright pub, and seems to be popular with rockers and goths.

I recommend heading here after the more gentrifed Church St pubs have closed on Friday or Saturday nights for a last pint. Sometimes there are DJ’s on and there’s a small pool table - which is becoming more and more of a novelty in modernised pubs. Much better than your other option (Father Ted’s) at any rate!
