Review of florence park from 23 March 2009

Another lovely park in Oxford, and a very conveniently located one at that, especially if you live in Cowley. Unfortunately, Florence Park closes at night, which means no romantic strolls by moonlight, and it doesn’t open until 8am, so no early morning jogging sessions either. The opening times change throughout the year, but in winter it can shut as early as 4pm, so make sure you don’t get locked in!

There are six tennis courts and you don’t usually have to wait long to get a free one. Court hire costs around £3 for an adult for an hour, around £1.50 for a concession (children and OAPs) and around £7 for a family (2 adults, 2 children).

This is a lovely park and, as mushtiff says, it often seems strangely empty.

I guess Oxford just has a lot of green spaces. It even has quite a few public tennis courts - the ones in Cutteslowe park are very nice.

It is a great place for a picnic, to visit with children or even just to go for a stroll.

This is a beautiful, landscaped park in Cowley, with gorgeous formal flower beds through spring to autumn, large grassy areas, wide flat paths, and lots of mature trees of various kinds. There’s an enclosed children’s play area, a bandstand, an immaculate bowling green, five tennis courts, an outdoor table tennis table and a small crazy golf course. courts etc can be booked at a small kiosk, which also sells ice-creams. The Florence Park Family Centre is also in the park. It’s crowded at the open day in September, but often seems underused at other times, for such a wonderful open space and surely some of the most beautiful public tennis courts in oxford?
