Spectacular statues. My memory got kinda full up with them so I don't remember much else about the venue (pathetic excuse). Probably drank Hopus as that seemed to be my newly discovered beer of this Belgian visit!

Het Elfde Gebod (The 11th Commandment in English or Das 11. Gebot in German) is a pub located directly at the Church of our Lady in Antwerp. It's an Original of the city, mentioned in many touristguides and also a recommendation of our lovely hosts (we stayed in a very nice B&B called Mabuhay). If you want to visit a pub, you HAVE to go there. Once you enter, you will know why. The interieur is very rustic, but what catches the eye are the estimated hundreds of statues of saints and religious artefacts the place is decorated with over and over. But you don't have to worry. They are not there for watching you spending your time being totally virtuous. Because Het elfde Gebod is to eat well, drink a lot of tasty beer and have tons of fun.
Eating there maybe is not a low-priced matter there, but so it is not in the rest of Antwerp and Belgium in general. But they offer a lot of various and tasty meals, from small snacks to full dishes. When it gets to beer, you will be quite busy trying all the various types of beer they offer: it must be around 300 - 400 (no joking). And you will surely have fun. Especially because you can meet a lot of interesting people there, tourists as well as locals, sometimes with a very genuine and eccentric personality.

By the way: The ground floor is no-smoking only, but it is allowed on the first floor. In summer they have seats and tables outside.

The pub everyone remembers from Antwerp.
Enjoy decent Belgian beers in a unique setting. If you like religious artefacts you're in for a treat.
Food is mainstream, traditional Flemish and, though reasonably priced, the portions are a little on the small side.
Worth a visit.

Beers include the local Konnick and a great draught Trappiste Westmalle dubbel.
Food is good if simple.
As well as the collection of religous statuary which adorns this quirky bar restaurant do not miss the ornate marble and tiled stairs .
