Review of Wirtshaus "Zum Rehkitz" from 9 September 2008

This elegant restaurant in a charming 17thC farmhouse is on the road up to Sonnbergstub’n Rosi’s and Bichlalm on the outskirts of Kitzbuhel and is extremely popular with well-heeled locals and visitors alike, as attested to by the range of smart cars outside. Brigitte Reiter and her family turn out some of the most sophisticated food in the region including superb steinpilze or eierschwammerl (chantarelle) risottos and delicious perfectly fresh baked saibling (arctic char) or zander (pike-perch). Finish with the local early autumn delicacy of mooserbeernocken (myrtille) pudding.

It is comparatively expensive - Eur 70 for two instead of the more usual Eur 45 - but the cooking is exceptional and it has a fabulous wine list that is particularly strong on 'super-Tuscans’ - though I prefer to drink the delicious local Zweiglts - particularly Jamek, which is as fine as a good pinot noir. Sit outside on a cooler evening and you will be given rugs to keep you warm beneath the carpet of stars that are invariably visible in the clear mountain air.

Review of Wirtshaus "Zum Rehkitz" from 12 April 2007

A wonderful old building, which has been completely renovated inside, serving very good food. We sat outside in the delightful garden and the children could play in the small play area - feast and relax all in one go. As a desert I can warmly recommend the Kaiserschmarrn (pancake with raisins).
