Beautiful place to go for dinner or for a function.........My best friend got married not long ago and the venue and staff were so welcoming and went out of their way to ensure everyone had a great time

Give the first compliment Compliment

Review of Ockenden Manor from 9 October 2008

I have eaten here twice and thoroughly enjoyed the whole sense of occasion it represents. This is a review about the restaurant rather than the rooms as I have not stayed overnight.

This place is quite a treat for my wife & I but one we think worthwhile for anniversaries and the like. It is not cheap but the whole place is very quaint country manor house. The staff are very attentive (many of them French) without being intrusive. Both times we have taken a drink and looked at the menu in the drawing room rather than the bar and the setting with the fire roaring in the winter makes you feel quite special.

The a la carte menu offers locally sourced meat & fish in an English style, is well presented and very tasty. There is also a tasting menu if you want to try a little of most dishes. The wine menu is exhaustive but in all honesty my wife & I tend to choose something at the cheaper end of the list. There are plenty of cheeses to choose from should you want the cheeseboard for dessert.

Overall, worth a treat every now and again.

Review of Ockenden Manor from 3 June 2008

Nestled in the middle of cuckfield, and consisting of an old Elizabethan manor house with beautiful grounds and lots of oak panelling, this is like entering into a time warp, and coming out happier for the experience.

If you can afford it, go for a superior room, and you’ll get a four poster bed and luxurious attention to detail and comfort. The many reception rooms downstairs offer a fab setting for unwinding, and there is even a croquet lawn outside if you fancy a bit of exercise and want to feel like landed gentry.

The restaurant is, obviously, oak-panelled, and serves delightful food, and truly extraordinary wine. I ate a slow cooked ham hock and a banana tart with butterscotch sauce and vanilla ice-cream. Too good.

Ockenden Manor is for me a special occasion place as it is expensive but well worth it. It’s a beautiful period buuilding in a small Sussex village. If you have the money it’s well worth a weekend away or sometime they special packages which are worth looking out for.

Wonderful dining experience at this gorgeous Elizabethan hotel/restaurant. Set in an idyllic countryside location, the building is beautiful, and so is the food.
Elaborate but not too fussy cuisine. Desserts are worth saving room for.
If you are in that neck of the woods, definitely worth a detour. Brilliant for a romantic dinner but will also impress business associates.
