I discovered Blackwells completely by chance. I was looking for directions to a pub and i popped in to ask on of the the staff. I ended up spending a good 40 minutes in here exploring! What a great bookshop and some of the friendliest staff i have every come across.

The good bits:
- It has such a huge range, it's likely to have the book you need.
- The Blackwells loyalty card - spend over £10 and get a stamp, collect the stamps and get increasing discounts. Definitely worthwhile, especially considering the price of academic books.
- They're very helpful with ordering in books they don't have, although it can take a long time.

The bad bits:
- Some bits are really weirdly organised, such as the Philosophy section in the Norrington room. You can end up trekking between floors for hours, wondering if Plato is in the Philosophy section, the Classics section or the Greek section.
- No student discount

Top tips:
- Find the book you want online and you can reserve it in store then pick it up from the customer services desk.
- If you've ordered a book they don't have in stock, keep chasing it up. They forgot my order before.

Blackwell's is not just a bookshop. If you look along the street you'll also see their art shop and their music shop. This bit of the empire houses books, the coffee shop and hidden away at the top of the building the second-hand section. Here you can not only buy books but also sell your old text books, novels and even children's books. They have to be in good condition and a current edition. And if you take the money in Blackwell's vouchers you get 40 per cent of the sales price - which means you can then toddle off round the bookshop to restock your shelves or you can buy some music or posters from the other shops.

A fine, fine book shop. When Blackwell's was first opened (by Mr. Blackwell of course), the shop was only 12/13 square ft. Remarkable! It's now a national phenomenon, still owned in part by the Blackwell family.

The Oxford store is particularly nice. It looks deceptively small from the outside but once you venture in you will be surprised how many rooms and levels there are. This is Oxford's largest bookshop. The blackwells.co.uk website is also exceptional and I buy the majority of my university textbooks on the site (that is if i can't find them second hand first!). For the tourists in Oxford, the famous walking tours actually set off from outside Blackwell's. Well worth doing. You are surrounded by history on Broad street in Oxford and there is not better place to start your journey than in Blackwell's book shop.

A great bookshop in the heart of old Oxford. I could spend hours in here thumbing through all sorts. As the previous reviewer said, once you've had enough reading, head over the white cross for a pint or 2 in Morsey's favourite pub.

Blackwell's is a must if you are shopping in Oxford; it's been around for over a century, and is now the largest bookshop in the city. Fantastic inventory (they cater for the universities) and very interesting layout of the building.
