A great shop and I have been going since it was on Loseby lane (i think)

It often happens that I want to buy something but don't know what. Not a problem. He knows the lot and soon knows the sort of thing you may be looking for. He will throw the odd curve ball in, but what a way to find new music that you would never have dreamed of.

Yes, sometimes (not often now) it may be slightly more but you would be suprised how much a small shop can can blow the big boys away. Knowing the rents round there I have to ask how he does it

Rock A Boom is an independent record store int he quirky area of St Martin’s Square in Leicester city centre. On offer it has a vast range of CDs and vinyl from many different genres. They also do a second hand section for vinyl where you can find some real treasures! As well as this they stock a decent amount of music related magazines on the counter, many of which are free and they sell gigi tickets for most events in the Leicester area! It is fantastic to see an independent music shop still around in this day and i hope to god they will be around for a long time to come! If you like anything from Rap to metal to indie to dance and electro! Go down and support your local record store before they become no more!

A Leicester institution, and rightly so. For those looking away from the mainstream for their musical thrills, this is the best little shop in the city, jam packed with musical obscurities and latest releases. The staff know their stuff, and you can get gig tickets for anything that’s going on in Leicester, which is extremely handy. Prices were a little on the steep side before, but I have been informed that they’re now extremely competitive. Plus, with certain albums, they occasionally give away free posters and stuff too. Lovely.

Rock A Boom is my favourite independent music shop in Leicester. It is located in ST. Martin’s square which is about 5 minutes away from Highcross shopping centre - Firebug bar and McDonalds are nearby.

Rock A Boom is only a small shop and can’t compete with HMV for sheer physical space. What it can offer though is very good value on cd’s and a small selection of vinyl. They cater to alternative music fans, so you can find some right gems searching through the racks on everything from punk rock to drum 'n’ bass. The reason I come back here is because the staff are incredibly friendly and chatty. I don’t just come here to buy a record, I come here to have a natter. The attendant will often talk to me about what he’s been listening to and recommend things to try. This is the sort of banter and experience you just can’t get at bigger corporate record stores.
