estancia steaks

Went here with a large group of folks after a 14 hour journey from the US, this is pretty biased because at that point you could have probably put a ham sandwich in front of me and it would have tasted the same.

I had a bit of difficulty ordering my steak in “grams” because the only gram I know it usually in relation to illegal substances, and the comparison to raw meat doesn’t do it too well…so for us non-metric folks, don’t order the 100g like I got…it’s super tiny.

I went with the house salad, which was not covered in jogurt sauce (thank you, thank you, thank you!) and contained a bit more than just the German staple of iceberg lettuce and canned corn.

I mostly was interested in their Malbec, which was supurb and next go at this place I think I’ll actually know how and what to order: bottle of Malbec, 200g steak, Bratkartoffeln and Knobbibrot!

After work dinner with the team. Inevitably On these occasions you are too busy talking to focus on the menu. So the service was excellent as the waiter made recommendations and suggestions that all turned out to be great. The steaks were great and the wine delicious. I recommend it!

We came here last night for a company dinner and we had a really great meal.

A starter of carpaccio then a really really good steak cooked to perfection. A final course of chunks of Parmesan. Good wine too but most of all was great service and attention from our waiter.

I have been in hamburg for nearly two months and it was the best place I have been to so far.

I look forward to coming back.

Update 19.03.2010: after not having been here for a longer time I thought it was time to give them another try. I've in the meanwhile decided that Butcher's is my favorite place in Hamburg. Their steaks are simply the best as are their dining rooms. I like the steaks in Meatery as well but don't like the interior of the place. The green leather is so not my thing. Unfortunately, Estancia is now the opposite. I like their interior for some reason more when the place is full which it now usually is at lunch or dinner. Stylish and well executed when lively, kind of empty and boring when not. Unfortunately, the steak was again poor. I had the 300g Uruguay steak which was on the specials menu at the front of the menu. I ordered it medium and with a side of black beans. The beans were fine but the steak was definitely not medium and more like medium well. Further the meat was bland. It just didn't "pop" in terms of flavor when eating it. Somehow Butcher's just manages to get this so much better plus they bring your steak on a super hot plate, keeping the meat warm longer. Service was also OK but not as nice as in Butcher's. Sure, that steakhouse is much more expensive but not by far. We had lunch this time at Estancia and with two bottles water, two sides, two steaks and two coffees were also at €80 for meal and tip. I usually pay around €90 at lunch when at Butchers. Meatery is in the same price region as Estancia. Yet, their steaks too are better. Anyway, I'm taking this place down to two stars. Sure, the atmosphere may be better but their steaks are what you come for. This time I found them worse than the last time and when comparing to their competition in Hamburg, they are much further down the ranking.

I had read many positive things about this place. I do admit the steak is quite good. Is it the best in Hamburg? I wouldn't say it's much better than Block House but this is already a good steak to measure up to. So, steak-wise the place is good. Otherwise, I find the interior somewhat lacking. Even worse is that the place is pretty much dead at night. We were there with one other table taken. It simply wasn't really very "exciting" at all. Service also seemed somewhat bored even though they did make an attempt to be helpful. Unfortunately, they did manage to screw up my bill, overbooking my credit card by 30 Euro. They resolved this issue (with the solution I proposed) yet afterwards didn't do much in terms of apologizing for the mistake. When we left there wasn't even a good-bye although I, not typical for me, was totally relaxed about the mix-up and didn't make a big deal of it. I think the service really needs to step it up a bit and they need to do a bit more in terms of filling the house to get some atmosphere going. I admit I've never been here for lunch but it's not my first choice when I think "steaks for dinner". I'll probably try it out in a couple months and see if it improves but I hope they don't disappear as quickly as the restaurant which used to be in the same location a while back. Maybe the location is jinxed! I do wish them luck though as I am the first to welcome multiple opportunities when it comes to steaks.

Das Estancia gehört zur leider immer seltener werdenden Gattung Restaurants, in denen das Erlebnis für den Gast noch im Mittelpunkt steht.

Schön zu sehen, wie das gesamte Team seinen Job mit absoluter Hingabe erledigt. Geniesser kommen hier voll auf ihre Kosten. Während in den meisten Läden die Sonderwünsche unserer 10-köpfigen Truppe die tatsächlich gelebte Kundenorientierung schonungslos offenbart haben, so hat man im Estancia noch das Gefühl, dass das Team den Anspruch hat, jedem (!) einzelnen Gast ein unvergessliches Erlebnis zu bieten. Auch wenn dafür 15 min. bis zur kompletten Aufnahme der Bestellung vergehen.

Die Steakqualität steht dem in nichts nach, das Filet lässt einen direkt nach Lateinamerika reisen.

In Summe ganz grosser Sport. Perfekter Ort zum schlemmen und die Seele baumeln lassen.

Five stars restaurant. Good steaks, nice atmosphere and kind service. I will defiantly come back again!!

Best Steaks in town. The sauce bernaise is handmade and lovely. The location is very nice with tusk at the flor.

The rib eye steaks are excellent, a little pricey. Also had the shrimp, was great. The only thing lacking here is a better dessert menu. The atmosphere is very quiet. Have been there only one time, on a Friday night, was not busy at all. Highly recommend if you are looking for a quiet place to dine out.
