i would like to advise all people that intend to eat at the white horse: take plenty of money for drinks while you wait and all of your patience! the food is less than satisfactory and the hospitality is non exsistant.
we have been numerous times in the last five years for a number of family gatherings anything from eight to thirty people so you would think our custom would be valued.
on the last occasion we were a party of 17 people for a pre booked birthday dinner, we all arrived on time and waited nearly 1 hour to be seated and a further 30 mins for are orders to be taken, followed by another 30 mins for the starters to get to the table! i myself ordered the chicken supreme dish for main and the fish cakes for starter. the fish cakes were very bland, cold and they looked and tasted like they had been reheated more than once and it was like trying to chew rubber! now the main: dry, overcooked chicken, cremated roast potatoes not sauteed as stated, redwine sauce or gravy granules you tell me!!! i sat and looked on in amazement as i waited a further 15 minutes for my vegetables to arrive "" steam in the bag"" of course!!
i was unable to eat any of the food served to me on this occasion and when asked by the waitress if everything was ok? i said no and explained as above, i was told that she would tell the manager to come over and see me, but no one came, but the bill! which was rather large.

We would recommend this amazing place to anyone, the welcome you receive fron the bar staff is only complimented by the roaring fires and the fabulous food. We are returning to the White Horse to celebrate our first Valentines Day as husband and wife and are looking forward to another amazing meal.

We have been regular customers of The White Horse for some time, the food has been fantastic and the service great. We eat there regularly, and chose to go for our Wedding Anniversary. On this occasion, the starter I always have (Thai Fishcakes) was awful, and the salad was slimy. I pointed this out to the waitress, who took it back and remonstrated with the “Chef”. For mains we had steak, and while mine was delicious my Wife’s was very fatty. The waitress took this into account and adjusted the bill accordingly. I tipped the waitress £2 for her helpful approach, but we have just got home after being told off by the owner (in the middle of a crowded restaurant) that we had been rude to her staff! If complaining about inferior food but still tipping the waitress is being rude, you’ll understand why we won’t be going back! And if you’re reading this at the White Horse, you’ll remember us – we are that nice couple who came there all the time, with an average spend of about £60 – £70, who always left a tip!

Good location with plenty of parking and tastefully decorated interior. That's the good over, now for the bad. Service is appalling with starters listed on the menu as not available and the table next to us receiving these with an alternate 2nd choice for us. Expensive main meals which consisted of dry microwaved chicken masquerading as Chicken Kiev Supreme (supremely toasted!) and tasteless Lamb Shank garnished with indifferent service.
Did not bother with the pudding after the purgatory of the first two courses and left unsatisfied with my wallet much lighter.
Will not darken their doorstep again.

Recently changed owners but the quality is possibly better than before, if that's possible! Slight price increase but portion sizes are hearty and you'll be pushed to manage their gorgeous desserts ( try the hand made profiteroles) signs ask for your patience whilst your meal is prepared as home cooking is still paramount in this lovely gastro pub. The pub is traditional with a modern twist. Walk ins are welcome and we've never had to wait more than 20 mins for a table.

The food is only the finest locally sourced produce. No “boil-in-the-bag”, tinned or frozen meals here, all food is freshly prepared. Some dishes such as fish are subject to seasonal availability.
As The White Horse is a Timothy Taylor pub, the quality of the beer is renowned. All wines are supplied through a quality local wine merchant and we also hold an excellent stock of both Belgian beers and Malt Whiskeys.
“Just excellent all round!!!”
