I recently went to the Royal Albert Hall to see Cirque du Soleil, a wonderful performance of outstanding acrobats and gymnasts doing all sorts of contortions and beautiful dances. The venue is gorgeous and it’s HUGE! We went for the cheapest tickets with restricted view, and I must say I was very disappointed at quite how restricted the view was- I saw about 70% of the show (and most of it from the back). Make sure that when you buy your tickets the sales person explains quite how restricted your view will be and for certain performances I would definitely say it’s worth spending an extra tenner to get a decent seat. However, the theatre is worth going to just because it’s so beautiful, you really feel dragged back into the last century and it feels so special sitting in such a grand venue. Great place to go to for a smart date!

It’s a historic building, and a London landmark. It’s immense and impressive from the outside. Pay attention to which door you need to enter through, though!

Inside is ornate, detailed, grand and breathtaking. The floor area usually has seats (called the Arena), though these can be removed for some events. Then there is a lower tier of about a dozen rows of seats (the Stalls). Above this is a tier of private Boxes. Above this is a tier of very steep seats (the Circle) - don’t worry about the person in front blocking your views, though you are getting a bit far away now. Finally, the Gallery is a wide open area circling the top. There are no seats here, and you simply stand (or sit, if you can peek through the railing).

Prices obviously get cheaper the higher you go. Not all tiers are open for all events. There are stairs and lifts all the way up. There are toilets on every level, and lounge areas with bars on almost all levels.

The sound is gorgeous in the Hall, and the opulent surroundings give every event a sense of grandeur and gravity.

The Proms - the annual series of popular classical music, with cheaper seats than normal - are a big event, and I’ve been twice. I’ve also seen musical acts like Eric Clapton (who does stints of several nights from time to time), David Gilmour, and The Be Good Tanyas.

If you are able to book one of the loggia boxes then i would do so - your seat will be a proper chair rather than a pop-up seat on a row. Also excellent view and no chance of being stuck behind a big head or hair-do. There is also space behind the seating area for your coats/bags etc. The only downside was that the lift was incredibly slow if you are not able to negotiate the stairs, though they were not steep ones and easy to climb. A popular venue kept in good order.

Great exhibition hall!! Whats more is all the historical exhibits, gigs, operas and performances that have seen the inside of this place- Unfortunately I only managed to have a quick look around (take photos...etc) as I didn't have a lot of time on that day-would definately like to come back and see something in here in the future

Of all the buildings I've come across in London that I wasn't overly familiar with, this is the most impressive. I hadn't realised it would be on such a grand scale, and the victorian design is a pure joy. You'll get all sorts being performed here, from pop concerts to sporting events but its probably best known as the venue for the proms. You'll hear whinges about the acoustics but this place is all about atmosphere, which it has by the bucket load.

This venue is amazing. The building is just magnificent. I was here to watch Alegra Cirque de Soleil. It was good too. But the inside of this building is fantastic. The atmosphere is great and everyone should visit. This place is perfect to watch an opera or orchestra, it is classy and elegent. from where I sat I could see the stage very well and also the people that were there watching as well. The view inside was breathtaking.

The Royal Albert Hall is one of the most amazing venues in London. The first time I was in the Royal Albert Hall was to see Erasure this year. I was astounded by the sheer vastness of the place, the opulant gold and blood red decor throughout! Oh and Erasure were great too!

First opened in 1871! Each year it hosts more than 350 performances including classical concerts, rock and pop, ballet and opera, tennis, award ceremonies, school and community events, charity performances and lavish banquets.

Well worth a visit!

A stunning building, inside and out with an atmosphere to match. I sat high up and was wowed not only by the concert I took in, but the view of others partaking in the same experience.

Stepping into the cafeteria-like snack halls displaces the sense of grandeur but only for a second, as when you return to the main hall it's forgotten. I highly recommend visiting the RAH.

Living & working in London you're often surrounded by wonderful buildings that you take for granted. The Albert Hall for me is one of these. I forget what a majestic space this is, built in the Victorian period this is a magnificient hall with a decorative dome and tiers of seating rising up around the stage.

I was first taken by my dad in 1982 to see the Proms. We sat in "the Gods" (the top tier) and from up there you really get a feeling for the massive size of the space. Traditionally concerts are held on the stage, but I have also seen Opera "in the round", i.e. with a stage built over the stalls section.

A true icon & perfect setting for classical music & opera, although of course more contemporary acts play there too.

Here I had some of the best experiences of my life. Some had to do with the music, like a great introduction to Beethoven. Some where romantic, where I do not even remember the music. It is a fantastic venue, no matter what you think of the sound quality.

Love it, love it, love it. My favourite venue in London for the stomach churning (in the nicest possible way) feeling you get when you look down on the stage from the highest rows of seats in the circle or the gallery.
Maybe the accoustics are not perfect, but the atmosphere is amazing.
The venue opened in 1871 and has grown to become one of the most iconic buildings in the capital
