I can recommend walking from the beach at Llantwit Major, up the steps (on the north or the west side) and following the footpath for a mile or two. There are wonderful views and it’s nice to stop and relax (perhaps with a picnic). There are no benches or tables but you can sit on the grass or one of the dry stone walls. There are stiles which you can climb over to continue. Starting a walk from Nash Point is another lovely one, and you can walk all the way to Atlantic College, which will take you down through the woodland when you get there, to the coast. Of course, once there, you can cross the slipway and continue on up steps to the cliffs on the other side too. Wherever you join the coastal walk, there are beautiful views and it’s a lovely way to spend an afternoon or a whole day, especially if the weather is good.
The Glamorgan Heritage Coast runs for 14 miles (23km), from Aberthaw to the dunes of Merthyr Mawr.
The scenery is superb, there are hidden castles, fantastic beaches and plenty of good pubs along the way. To be honest there is far too much to say about this area than one review would allow….
