This is, without question, my number one most favourite cinema in London (in the UK it's second only to the Little Theatre in Bath). Whenever there's a film I'm dying to see, I splash out and see it at the Electric. The seats are really comfy, armchairs all round and if you book early enough you can even nab one with a footstool, or a sofa for two. Even sitting quite near the front is fairly comfortable.

The snacks are delish, if a little pricey. And you can even indulge in a cheeky bottle of wine or a nice cup of tea.

What's great about going to the Electric is you feel like it's really an experience, it's a bit special - as opposed to going to your local Vue where going to the cinema is about as exciting as getting on a bus.

I LOVE the Electric. Yes it is expensive but you feel like you are getting an old fashioned atmospheric cinema experience rather than a big chain. The leather chairs with footstools are to die for and you can enjoy your movie with a glass (or bottle) of red wine in hand and one of their amazing chocolate brownies. One word of warning don’t just try to rock up you will need to book well in advance - bookings open for the week after on Friday mornings.

You’re right. The Electric is brilliant. I just wish they showed a wider range of films!

The Electric is a fabulous experience, with the gorgeous leather seats with stools and tables with wine cooler between each seat. Or splash out and get a whole sofa. The place is decorated very lavishly. With lots of gorgeous draping curtains. Also the bar at the back is more reasonable than I thought it would be and the staff were pretty friendly. There are also some bar snacks available for purchase, and there were some very yummy looking brownies stacked up. The cinema is not cheap, but is a really nice treat. The atmosphere was great – as if you had a cinema in your home, everyone chatting and laughing, very relaxed.

Want to see a movie in real comfort, with your beer in a seat that competes with your sofa at home, well you’ll get this at the Electric Cinema!

One of my favourite cinemas in the world. For a real art-house cinematic experience in comfy surroundings you can’t do much better than the Electric cinema.
Great place to take a date or a group of friends or even if you just fancy a bit of “me” time. Food is good quality at a reasonable price and you’ll never feel out of place in these relaxed settings.
A real gem of a place showing both commercial and less mainstream movies

Well in the heart of the old cool area of London lies this throwback to a different era. For all nostalgics and escapists, here’s the place to go and view quality cinema.

This place has to be the coolest cinema in London. Big Leather seats with more leg-room than a Virgin Atlantic business class, and more comfortable than a hammock on a windy day.

The films are well-chosen and the staff accommodating. Not only this, but the sort of cinema food you get is a thousand times better than the usual muck and a thousand times cheaper. Different selections every day, served in gorgeous mini buckets, treat yourself to some marinated chipolatas, or mini fish and chips and relax as you escape to fantasy land.

This is a great place: elegant, atmospheric, with a rich history and luxurious. Definitely worth a visit and I would be glad to visit it again and again.

As many have pointed out, rightly, the prices are higher than elsewhere, with the exception of those cheap Mondays.

I understand this used to be a genuinely arthouse cinema - it was the last place to screen something as risky as Pasolini’s Salo apparently - but it doesn’t really live up to that reputation anymore. They do seem to pick critically acclaimed movies, but ones that play all across London (think Apocalypto, for example), with the result that the programme these days is pretty mainstream. Indeed, you could watch all the same stuff at Odeon Whiteleys not too far from The Electric and this might come a bit cheaper.

So, by all means go to The Electric if you want to, but don’t expect anything cutting edge. There are more arthouse places in London than this, BFI Southbank being a prime example.

Definately my favourite cinema in London, this is a what can only be descibed as a luxury cinema experience. Situated on Portobello road with lots a good bars and restaurants around for pre or post your film, this small independant cinema is a real treat. The large leather seats are very comfortable with loads of legroom. There is a small table between each seat for your drinks, but we are not talking bumper size coke here. The small bar at the back of the cinema is fully licensed and serves a good range of drinks, so you can relax in front of the film with a nice bottle of wine. There are double leather sofa beds at the back of the theatre which can be booked for a bit extra if you want to curl up with someone. Its understandably more expensive than other cinemas but only slightly and there is a cheap night on Mondays. The only down side is its very hard to get tickets without booking well in advance and I’m rarely that organised.

I would highly recommend this place for a really sweet, romantic date (on the sofa of course), a bit of a treat or just because you can afford to pay a little extra to go to the cinema. There is only a minor problem with this cinema, because it is so small only 1 film is shown at a time, so you can’t just decide that you want to watch a film that’s on at the rest of the cinemas, you sort of have to watch out for when they are playing the movie you want to see…..but to be honest, the Electric Cinema is not the sort of place that becomes your regular cinema (those pennies do add up you know!).

The electric is a cinema with a bit of a difference - its not your usual odeon chain experience - the seats are luxurious, huge and lots of lots of leg room (and thats just for the basic ones) but whats more you can head to the bar at the back of the cinema to buy yourself a large glass of red or something else alcoholic you fancy. No popcorn and giant coke deals here! If you want to pay a bit more, and get there first, you can buy tickets for the sofa at the back - it fits two and you can lie back and enjoy the film in style. The only downside to this cinema was, when it was my local, it was so popular that tickets got sold out really quickly. You will likely be unlucky if you decide half an hour before a film starts that you fancy popping along, it’s likely that you’ll find all the tickets have sold out.

The Electric is a super cool cinema located in Notting Hill so its such a shame that considering I live about 15 minutes walk away I’ve never seen a movie there!

Booking ahead is definitely the key at The Electric particularly for the bigger blockbusters and also on Mondays (when prices are cheaper.) The cinema seats just over 100 cinema goers so its not a huge cinema by any stretch of the imagination but the screen is more than adequate for your viewing. The cinema is broken up into three sections:

- The rear which features the 2 person seater sofas. Nice for those who want to cuddle.
- The middle which features nice large comfortable leather seats (big enough to curl up in!) with footstool and side table with wine cooler.
- The front rows (three) which are the same as the middle rows but sans the footstool.

The cinema also has a bar at the back of the cinema which is open for about half an hour before the movie begins. Be prepared however for a winner takes all attitude with the patrons because you can politely wait in line only to find that everyone else is pushing in front of you. And this is quite possibly the main drawback of the cinema - the other cinema goers. I couldn’t believe how pushy some of them were. Sigh.

i agree it has changed a bit in the last few years, but I still love going to the Electric. `there is something so decadent about sipping wine while enjoying a film in the cinema. choices of film are not as good as they used to be.

The Electric was before its complete makeover a few years ago, my favourite cinema in London. There was something about the place, its location, its history, the films being shown, that made the place special. It is now very different, much more commercial but very cool with huge comfortable leather seats where one can pretty much lay down even more comfortably than in one’s own couch! There is a bar in the cinema serving alcohol and even double leather “beds” at the back for those looking for something really different. The downside is that there are quite fewer seats compared to other cinemas and the shows are invariably booked in advance (very annoying for people like me who don’t tend to plan such things really in advance) and also quite expensive. But The Electric has redefined the cinema experience so it is worth a little premium (and people seem to agree since it’s always full). Note that on certain weekdays they have special shows for young mums with their kids under two.

Whenever i come to london the electric normally gets a visit. If its for food or the cinema it always provides a good serice. Apart form when they ran out of milk during the breakfast serice.

I haven’t’ been to the cinema part of this venue, which I hear is quite something (you sit on sofas and get served a meal whilst watching a film) but I have had brunch in the annexed restaurant which is gorgeous! As soon as you step in you will feel like you’re in Europe, to be precise in Paris. The entire décor is very continental and the whole place is buzzing, there are people coming in and out every 5 minutes, sitting at the bar sipping espressos, people standing around reading the paper waiting for a table. Big bowls of fruit and vases of flowers adorn the bar… all the waiters are dressed in white and serve you so fast you won’t even realize your food has been put down in front of you. This place is definitely euro chic and worth a visit. I had eggs Benedict which were to die for! It’s fairly pricey but worth it if only just for the experience.

This is cinema in style! Every seat in this kitschy one-screen Notting Hill movie theatre is big, leather and supremely comfortable, and comes with a table for your popcorn and drink. I don’t mean an airline style tray that you pull down from the seat in front of you, I mean an actual coffee table. The star-studded short which plays before the feature film imploring you to turn your mobile phone off and adhere to other similar rules is worth a visit in itself, and while at first glance you may think the prices exhorbitant, even a brief thought about what you normally pay in your local multiplex to be treated like an inconvenience by the school-age staff and to sit in uncomfortable, sticky and cramped seats will convince you that the joy of the Electric is worth a couple of extra pounds. If you really want to splash out, the two sofas at the very back of the cinema cost £30 each and come with enormous poufs which transform these already large seats into something closer in relation to a double bed.

The Electric screens a mixture of Hollywood blockbusters and arthouse and/or foreign films, and also celebrates festivals or seasons during the year when a particular genre of film is given precedence, but owing to the fact that it only has one screen film-choice here is very limited. I would suggest that the higher than average prices and lack of choice rules the Electric out as a regular haunt, but is an ideal place to go for a treat or a special occasion. The multitude of great places to eat and drink just metres from the door is another draw, and yet another factor that makes this such a good place to go when you want to treat yourself!

Dummy_user_small

As someone who has lived in nottinghill all my life and has visited the pre restyled electric cinema and loved it i have yet to visit since the place has been changed as i felt that it had been changed for the more “upper class” in the style of the old fashioned pub pushed aside to become a wine bar… (Ok for those of you who enjoy a glass of extremely expensive wine which would have been half the price b4)... reading this and other revues has made me rethink and i will visit…. I will reserve my judgement till then…

Great place to catch a movie. Small, intimate cinema that serves wine, tea and food! You can book a sofa to your self at the back or huge seats with foot stools, it really is a special experience and the brasserie next door is worth a reservation.

Whoah! This cinema is one of a kind. Guys, if you want to take a girl to a casual date and still impress her, Electric Cinema is the perfect place. The luxuous, original and spacious interior, the leather seatings, the footstools and the 2-seater sofas at the back of the theatre make this place a very romantic one.
Just one tip: book in advance (you can book online).

The Electric Cinema is something of a hot topic to locals of the Portobello area - on the one hand people were delighted when the Cinema was bought out and saved from the possibility of a life as an office block, but on the other, it now stands as yet another example of the increasingly gentrified persona that Notting Hill now assumes. Consider this: the previous incarnation of the Electric showed pretty much the same movies, the screen was the same as was the decor. Prices were about £6 per adult. The new Electric, however, for a very similar experience will set you back between £9-20. That said, the comfortable seats with foot rests are inspired and you do feel privileged to be there. I'm not entirely convinced and the adjoining bar is ridiculously over-priced but if celeb-spotting is your thing then this is the place for you.

The Electric cinema on Portobello Road is a what I would describe as a great cinematic experience. Combined with a private members club, restaurant and bar, the Electric offers more than just a picture house. Serving champagne and salmon balls as opposed to pop corn and skittels in the screening area, the venue is definately a step above the rest in terms of a quality evening out at the pictures. With a choice of comfortable chairs and sofas to choose from, kick back and take in a film of your choice!
