Review of Bordello from 26 January 2012

Alas the gentrification of Shoreditch continues. The late great Bordello is no longer, replaced by a generic Pod eaterie to rival neighbours Pret, Eat and Itsu. A sad day for EC2A.

Review of Bordello from 20 November 2009 (updated on 15 January 2010)

I was lucky enough to be invited by Qype to an evening of chocolate, wine and corsetry at Bordello.

A lovely experience all round and I loved the vintage hats, bags et al they have for sale, as well as the beautiful lingerie and corsets. Great to see the staff dressed in pencil skirts, waspies and corsets. The only disappointment was the chocolate people did not turn up and that is a pretty poor show seeing Qype advertised participation on their behalf. Thanks goodness for Judith (deCabbit) who thoughtfully provided some last minute chocolate.

Bordello is certainly somewhere to stop off for that special lingerie or special gift for the lady in your life.

Review of Bordello from 7 December 2009

All the other ladies who attended the Qype event have already commented on the quality and range of lingerie as well as other naughty toys available in the store, so I won't be adding to much to those comments, although I'm sure I'm not alone in having been converted into a corset fan, having had the very friendly and experienced Kunza do a fitting for me. They're not cheap, though, so they'll have to remain on my wishlist for many years to come.

In addition to lingerie, toys and vintage accessories, the shop also offers a range of jewellery by Shanghai Pearl. I fell in love with a necklace around one of the mannequin's necks, and bought it on the stop, managing to become loyalty card holder no. 1 in the process, which was pretty cool.

The loyalty card scheme works like this: you receive one stamp per full £20 spent. Each completed card entitles customers to 10% off their next purchase at the shop. Completed cards are valid for three months, and cannot be redeemed against sale items or used in conjunction with any other special offer. I have yet to complete my card but don't have too much more to fill, so, perhaps when that's done, I can treat myself to something on the lower-end of the price range!

Owner Michele and her sales stuff, especially Frederica who looked gorgeous in her black corset and Victorian outfit on the night, are all really friendly and knowledgeable. In fact, I'm willing to wager if you're one of those really shy and uncertain customers (whether you're male or female), they'd be able to help sort you out in double-quick time without you feeling at all embarrassed!

Review of Bordello from 27 November 2009

I recently attended a Qype event @ Bordello, which is a lovely little boutique, offering sexy lingerie and negligees, corsets, hats, stockings, vintage accessories and beautiful props - as well as a range of Swedish (!) sex toys. Oh, and a suprisingly large selection of tassels... It's amazing how such a relatively small shop can fit so many items, and I have to say, I found the idea of having to browse actual wardrobes and look through chests of drawers to find hidden gems quite exciting. I particularly liked the bridal range - great gift ideas for naughty brides-to-be and raunchy honeymooners, if you can afford it.

In all honesty, I am not a huge fan of retro/burlesque (I probably even spelt it wrong...) but the place did put me in a nostalgic mood.
So if you, unlike me, can walk/dance in high heels - and you are "well-heeled" indeed, if you can wiggle and take your corset off with one hand or your name is something like Mimi L'Amour/Madame De Ville, you will adore the place.

Review of Bordello from 24 November 2009

I stroll past the windows of Bordello frequently and sigh that I'm not enough of a diva or dom to pop in and browse. Thank goodness for Qype's event which allowed me to stroll through the doors without shyness and tough silky knickers and buzzing toys without shame.

The store is beautiful, but quite out of my budget. I would have loved to take home a pair of the vintage-inspired bra and panty sets, but sigh I cant reward myself for anything so extravagant quite...yet.

Someday I'll be back and I'll take something home.

PS -- All the ladies who work there deserve girl-crush status. BEAUTIFUL. meow.

Had a wonderful time at the event the other night, much enhanced by the glamourous assistants. They not only made a fantastic advert for the corsets, stockings, hats and other accessories on sale (I'm sure I can't have been the only one to come away drooling, and wishing I had an excuse to dress up like that on a daily basis), but they were also very knowledgeable, and genuinely charming helpful and friendly - traits which can be hard to find in the staff at some high-end boutiques. As the other ladies have acknowledged, it isn't cheap, but the opulent wares and decor makes for such an decadent and indulgent experience that it's only to expected that the prices are just as extravagant!

Review of Bordello from 23 November 2009

I managed to spend more money on one piece of underwear at the QYPE event that at any time in my life - but it was well worth it!
This is definitely the place to go for a real treat (or to send the boyfriend!) and the staff are really helpful too which only adds to the experience.

The boutique is amazing, feels really accessible, even though it's quite expensive. I usually avoid high end lingerie places as it annoys me when they only have 3 or 4 pieces on the rails. In Bordello you get loads of divine lingerie to riffle through!

Massive thumbs up and I’ll be back soon
Thank you

Review of Bordello from 23 November 2009

I guessed I knew what to expect from the Qype Ladies in a speciality lingerie store... bit of giggling, wine drinking, blushing... that was about as far as I ventured.
I didn't figure on the content of the store though. Where else could you buy white ruffled sleeves and the white pointy hat with a black pom pom atop it? Clown fetishist stores don't really leap out form every corner.
Think fur and lace and ribbon, corsets and feathered garnishes... and this desire for the pretty things gets stronger. Suddenly I really needed a feather embossed bra...
Basically if you;re a woman you have hours of poking about in this store to come, and a fair bit of money to loose on the pretty things... if you're a man? better run in to the counter with ah, toys, and get your lady a gift voucher.

Review of Bordello from 23 November 2009

As one of the lucky women who went to corset, chocolate & wine event last week, i have to say how much i loved the boutique ( its beyond being a mere shop)

I loved the style with which everything was displayed, not just the corsets. The whole space had a sumptuousness that i have rarely found in london. Everything about it, including the fantastically dressed assistants, projects an image of an era long past.

The quality and range of the corsets that they have was amazing, although since i wasnt able to try any on, i didnt fix my interest on any one in particular. I loved the fact that they were well made and had proper boning in them as well.

Its definitely a shop i'd love to go back to ( hopefully for the lipstick and curls class), but it might take me a little while to part with the money for one of the beauties they have in there.

Overall a beautiful shop with beautiful items, and it was nice to meet more qypers.

"Sian, what's this?"
"That's a c$ck ring."

And so started the evening of fun and blushing at Bordello's Qype event. And what a fab event it was. I'm now a little bit in love with the shop and all of its pretty wares.

Our evening was spent drinking wine, and perusing all of the wonderful corsets and fascinators and nipple tassels. Everything in here is so so pretty. I fell head over heels for a waistcoat corset thing and then cried when I saw the price. it was more than a month's rent :-(

It's not cheap in here. But that's the point. Nothing is cheap looking either. In fact, everything looks like you've spent hundreds on it. And that's what you want isn't it? If you're going to dress up like a miss Fancypants (in fancy pants) then this has got to be a better option than Ann Summers. Let's face it, anything is a better option than Ann Summers.

I wish I could afford things in here. Even lots of white wine wouldn't relax the tight grip on my credit card. That's rare, I'm terrible for shopping when I'm tipsy.

It's such a beautiful shop to look around, really fun. I wish I had more money. I also wish I was less prudish. Nothing like a shop assistant recommending a sex toy to make you go pillar box red.

Oh, how I wish I could actually afford to shop here! The lingerie is gorgeous, the staff is goregous, the entire experience is goregous!

Bordello carries a fabulous colelction of high-end lingerie that's both sexy and tasteful. Walking in, you feel as if maybe you really could quit your job and become a burlesque dancer, but then you look at the price tag, see £90 knickers and slowly realise that career move will have to wait just a little longer...

But boys, take note: your gal will love you forever if you shop for her in here.

Review of Bordello from 20 November 2009

I'm not particularly familiar with posh knicker shops (I'm an M&S girl at heart) so I wasn't quite sure what to expect when I visited Bordello yesterday evening with a few other Qypers. Now I want everything. Absolutely EVERYTHING.

The shop is gorgeously styled like a retro boudoir complete with a screen, red velvet curtains and dressing tables. Aside from the stunningly gorgeous must-have-it-now lingerie, they sell vintage accessories (we had great fun trying on hats, hairbands and gloves), books emblazoned with pinup girls and things that made me and a few other ladies blush and titter like schoolgirls - I believe the term is "erotica".

As you'd expect with a shop this lovely, everything is rather pricey (my budget could probably stretch to one sequinned nipple tassel). But unlike other high-end stores, the staff don't get sniffy if you finger the lovely displays or bump into the mannequins after a few glasses of wine. In fact, they couldn't be more helpful and are obviously knowledgeable about the stuff they sell.

Ladies: If you ever decide to treat yourself to something gorgeous and lovely and amazing, then Bordello is the place to go.

Gents: Get her Christmas/Birthday/Anniversary gift from here and the brownie points will be off the chart.

Bordello is just a lovely shop full of lovely silkies.

Been in for a look a few times and went to the Qype event last night for wine quaffing and chocolate eating. Watch my friend forced into a ribcracking corset by Kunza. Really beautifully designed corsets.

The lady who runs the shop is also very helpful.

At the Qype event at Bordello I fell in love with a Kunza couture corset but it's going to have to go on wishlist for a while. Instead I might opt for one of their vintage hats or some of the books - like the adult Alice in Wonderland.
Really helpful staff and a lovely shopping experience...

Some of the most beautiful lingere I have seen in a long time. The corset selection rivals many I have seen at BBB or LFF and as such I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place for sexy but really good quality lingere.

I think that for a corset it is worth getting a proper sizing as these things can be a bit tricky but a genuine joy and pleasure to see the beautiful corsets available here.

I was lucky enough to go to a Qype event here with wine but sadly no chocolates.

Not far from Liverpool Stn. it is definately worth a trip.

If corsets, sexy lingerie and burlesque are your thing, well, look no further. This exclusive Shoreditch boutique has all the numbers to make your head spinning (and your man’s too!). Very good selection of hosiery and vintage accessories too…

I just love it!!!

Review of Bordello from 14 December 2008

I usually feel like a shoplifter at the best of times, so this gets me doubly hot under the collar. Trying to browse and not look I am about to pilfer, or look like a perverted loner. Or both.

And there is plenty here to catch the wayward eye: sophisticated (yet still saucy) undergarments, a selection of fine (but erotic) books and all sorts of other burlesque bits and pieces. There are vintage pieces and new, maternity wear and various exclusive lingerie brands.

The decor is perfectly apt, the staff dressed to the nines and pleasingly helpful and it is a wonderful place to splash some cash on the lady (or ladies) in your life, though I wouldn’t suggest it for gifts for your mother-in-law.

With Christmas fast approaching, you’ll buy yourselves a bucket load of brownie points if you give a little something from Bordello, though equally it is fun having a mooch about too. Just that, if you’re anything like me, best not on your jack jones.
