thats very interesting that there has been no reports of eels ever being caught in ardgowan but the many sightings of them by the previous owner brian would suggest they are very much present in the loch. not so much in the main body of the loch but at the small pool at the base of the loch thom damb wall. i myself have caught one around 3 ft long from the outward damb from the deep hole in front of the bay with a small waterfall.
the system of lochs that include the thom, upper gryffe and lower gryffe are connected by a series of rivers and streams. the main one being the gryffe/black and white cart system that leads to the clyde. all of which are very well populated by eels and there are many reports of this to back this up.
so it is by no stretch of the imagination to think that they could reach lochs like ardgowan with little effort.

I am sorry but even tho this is a good fishery , contrary to what ROBERT says it is not the cheapest about and very far from it.
We had simply explained to ROBERT wehad taken a day out in Hamilton to be very surprised by there tickets there £12 for 2 £14 for 3 £16 for 4 and £19 for 6 compared to £26 in his. If you catch inyour limit i explained they allow a £5 upgrade which again is not allowed at Ardgowan, considering most travel a fair bit to it this is surely very poor. We did not slag HIM or ARDGOWAN off but instead made a suggestion and opinion in the forum which he asks for. I did that with no abuse what so ever but in return have been barred from not only the forum but the fishery. This is a very strange reaction and has obviously touched a nerve with ROBERT! but hey ho plenty of good fisheries about at trust me --a lot cheaper and far better value for ur day and travel guys so fish about
ROBERT you enjoy ur endeavours!

I’m not the best person to review this as a place to fish (so hopefully someone else will) but I have visited the cafe there and found it to be a very pleasant and nice place to have a lovely cup of tea and hot snack! It’s also friendlier than the nearby Cornalees cafe (at least, it was on the one occasion I was there). Fishing apart, this is a great place to start a walk around one of the reservoirs in the area or along the Greenock Cut.
