Agree completely: kitchen is good (love their homemade muffins) but not so cheap and service unfriendly and arrogant, they look even annoyed when you wanna order something. Pity bacause location and food are very good/nice!

The waitresses are completely overwhelmed from simple tasks such as serving "Saftschorle" or mustard with the "Bratwurst". And really, even for conditions in Berlin, totally arrogant and unfriendly. The food was not bad per se, but unfortunately too salty.
Like Annasofia we got a penalty for complaining. And had to pay in full for a returned meal.
The food is really good. I love their salads. The prices are high and you don't really get that much food. I used to go here a lot because of the food. But the people who work there have been so unfriendly that I just don't want to go back again.
First of all, they sit and chat with their friends when you're waiting to order. (I will post pictures of that this summer) You have no idea when they will serve you. Second, if you complain or suggest that there's anything wrong with their food, you get really bad treatment.
My worst experience:
I sat there with a brownie hard as a stone. I couldn't even take it a part. So I just asked if I'd mistakenly gotten a yesterday's brownie. He said: "This is not an American brownie!" and gave me the death gloat every time he passed my table. That was uncomfortable for everyone at my table and I had to pay in full even if I couldn't eat it.
But the food is great if you're not that hungry! Not the brownie (if I didn't get an old brownie). The coffee is decent, as any other ordinary cafe in Friedrischain. The bio eggs are pretty sweet too. Yum! I miss this place, minus the people working there :(

awesome restaurant that serves authentic german-style dishes… soups, schnitzels, spätzle, potato salat, the works. menu is small but the dishes are very different so you have lots of choices. their potato salat and onion spätzle are killer! they use lots of organic/bio foods and the meat is neuland fleisch. one of the local gems for a real home-cooked meal made with love!

really great little restaurant featuring tasty dishes made from organic ingredients. the prices are very reasonable for the pasta/salads but the (excellent) neuland meat dishes will run you a bit more. i had a yummy vegetable quiche with dip and i have also tried 3 pasta dishes, all fantastic. the only gripe is that their kitchen closes earlier than most eateries in the area. will definitely go back again.

Volcksküche (though written with a C in “Volk”) roughly translates to people’s kitchen. This is a restaurant located in a street off of the “notorious” (ironic) Simon-Dach-Strasse in Friedrichshain.
The cooking is pretty traditional, not very fancy. They server Spätzle along with other traditional German food, but I also had pasta with pesto once. Last time I had a Wiener Schnitzel with potato salad which was good.
All in all the cooking is OK, though not outstanding. The prices are alright for the area but also more on the pricey side and therefor don’t really invite you in each time you go by. For example, most meals are around 5 to 7 EUR, the Schnitzel was almost 13 EUR. Too expensive for “OK-cooking” if you ask me.
The service is nice, sometimes a bit slow, so you have to take it easy and shouldn’t be in a rush when you stop by.

Walked passed this place a number of times and thought that the menu was good and the lack of ashtrays inviting.
However sorely disappointed!
I had the distinct impression that I was not quite the customer they were looking for, having left my dog and copy of Taz at home. Was made to feel less than welcome. And my boyfriend was insulted behind his back whilst leaving. Will not go back. Worst kind of face policy/ prejudice I’ve come across in Berlin.
