hhmmmm…Halo….words to describe this place….. sweat box (the lack of ventilation had me dripping in sweat in no time and I had not even started dancing!)......kindergarten (was I the only person above 12???!!) and beyond painful! The “S and M” rooms of the top bar…nice try, but sorry - it does not work! Do I really want to lie on some purple and black bed with a disco ball above me playing dark fantasies???!! Ah..no!

The fact that I had to be on the DJ’s door list to get into this place was beyond a joke to only find that I was swimming amongst 12yr olds who were trying really hard to be Hamburgs next “wanna be” gang, but they were so far from it, it was not funny.

I do like funky house music of which they were playing down stairs…for a split moment… but the bad atmosphere was not worth the moment…. and once again - the 12yr olds who were posing badly…

Upstairs was no better, except for the fact that my friend was a friend of the DJ. This, however, did not make the hip hop music any more enjoyable. I do not mind hip hip, but it has to be really good hip hop for me to actually enjoy it. As I painfully whipped out a few dance moves, I was then suffocated by the smoke machine! I do not think I have been to a club with a smoke machine since I was 18! Actually, no, the under age clubs when I was 16!!! That was enough to send me home!

Unless you want to “re-kindle” the moments from when you were 16…..I would give this place a miss.

For myself…. I would rather put hot pins in my eyes then go there again!

For all intents and purposes, the Halo is a pretty bad club. The all-important looking bouncers make way for the all-important looking people at the register, in a far too obvious attempt to enhance the air of exclusivity. This “air of exclusivity” seems very forced at the Halo. The public that goes here seems to be young, overdressed and overdoing it.

Music on both floors is not the best, and not particularly danceable. I’m a fan of electronic music, but the dance music spun on the bottom floor reminded me of class parties in 5th grade. My boyfriend’s brother was the DJ on the second floor the evening I went (which explains my visit) celebrating his 400’s radio show on NDR. I’m not a hip-hop fan, but the music was passable. Hiphop isn’t really my thing.

Upstairs next to the hip-hop floor is also the smoking lounge. This is somewhat ironic since there is no ventilation, or at least not any noticeable ventilation.

In closing, I’d avoid the halo unless you’re the type that likes to mingle with the young and overdressed in a haze of cigarette smoke and cheap vodka. If so, wear earplugs.
