Wow, quite mixed reviews so far. How can the Vondelpark only get 1*! I think this is one of the finest city parks in Europe. Perfect for biking around and great for chilling out in or just playing frisbee. We came here with a group of friends last summer and had a wonderful picnic. It’s a great place to escape to particularly if you are sick off the hustle and bustle of the city centre.

It’s all right if you want to walk a lot, but nothing spectacular. Somebody said it reminded them a little of the 60s, when people sat around on the grass a lot. Not meant to be negative, and perhaps I am not a park-sitter. besides, the streets of Amsterdam are so appealing for the visitor that one would rather be walking the canals, enjoying the unique architecture and the stylish stores. As always, watch out for those bikes!!

The Vondelpark is the perfect palce to go to recover and catch a few rays in whilst it's still daytime in Amsterdam. There's a great crowd here on summer days, gay weddings, moving bar beer bikes (basically 8 people riding a moving bar!), and lots of people generally being friendly and enjoying themselves, like the Dutch do.
