If you like steak this is a must.
Easy to find on the bottom end of Bolker strasse as you will see the big vertical yellow 'LAZO' sign on the wall from far away. Once inside, the decor is basic but comfortable and all the staff are very pleasant and eager to please. You will often find the owner is in house to ensure everything runs smoothly.
On arrival you get a glass of sherry and some warm chopped baguette with the tastiest most addictive herb butter you've eaten. Avoid overeating this or you won't have room for the main!
The menu has a good selection and most steak dishes, in the typical German style, come with a basic salad starter and a single vegetable side (eg brocolli) with baked potato or fries. If you prefer a different or wider selection of vegetables, you can order on the side. You also get a freshly made spicy mix of onions and paprika in a 'tapenade' style paste which is simply great with the meat.
The portions are generous and all the steak is Argentinian Angus, cooked perfectly and simply beautiful. I always order entrecote (sirloin) or t-bone rare and in two and a half years living in Dusseldorf I have never had a bad steak there. In fact I've had some of the best in my life!
There's usually space to turn up on the door but friday and saturday evenings are busy, so you're better to book a table or you may have to wait a while to be seated.
Steak prices vary between around 12.50 - 17.50 (350gr entrecote) but there is also a weekday lunchtime special that costs around 10-12 euro depending on the cut you order.
Summary: If you like a good steak, I can't recommend this place enough.
Decent quality steak house in Düsseldorf Aldstadt, on Bolkerstrasse which is home to one or two restaurants! The portions were generous, and the pepper sauce and chips nice too. Filet steak weighs in at €19.90, with draught beer at €2 a go.
Stumbled Steakhaus Lazo while walking down Bolkerstrasse. I was struck by the large window which displayed the kitchen. I could see the cooks were having fun and seeing those great pieces of meat being grilled drew us in.
The restaurant is dark, woody, warm and cozy. We enjoyed some awesome steaks, got a side of steamed broccoli, and washed it down with the local beer (forgot the name but very good).
All meals come with bread and some sort of garlic butter spread I couldn’t stop eating. It seems a bit hectic when you first walk in but just go with the flow and enjoy.
