Edeka Schlemmer Markt am Rathaus

I come here a couple of times a week for lunch during work. There is a good selection of food vendors with cheap tasty food.

My current favourite is the Indian Curry place - they usually have a choice of 4 curries (including Vegetarian) which come with Pilau rice, salad and yogurt sauce, all for about €6.

Cheap, quick and tasty.

I had a jacket potato here a few weeks ago and it's literally taken me a few weeks to recover from a) how good it was but mainly b) the SIZE of it. This potato was on its own bigger than a grown man's head but THEN he was like "what do you want on it?" and I did the classic panicked "oh, whatever" which he took to mean ALL THE FOOD WE HAVE IN THIS SHOP. And so there I was, confronted with enough food to last a normal person a week. My problem is, I see large portions as a challenge. I swear I probably shed tears trying to eat that. Obviously I ate it, in case there are any doubters out there.

As far as useful review information goes, it had stuff like beetroot, cheese, veg on it. It's €2.90 for a potato with sour cream, €3.90 for the vegetarian option which I had, which basically means all the vegetarian produce you can imagine PLUS sour cream which they serve out of a vat the size of a lorry so they're not bothered about how much they give you. It's like the economy ketchup mentality that suddenly makes you eat 10 times as much ketchup. €4.90 will get you some meat as well, although I don't know where they'd fit it on/in.

Basically, this potato was so big that I feel like I've eaten a meal just writing a review about it. If you like potatoes or if enter eating competitions and want some informal practice at lunchtime, this is the place to go.

This Schlemmermarkt on Rathausmarkt is a good lunch alternative. There is a wide range of takeaway food available from sandwiches to sushi to baked potatoes - all at pretty reasonable prices. If there's actually an Edeka supermarket in here somewhere I haven't noticed it. It's just a big food hall as far as I can tell.
