I stayed here the night before and on the day of my wedding, everything was fine and lovely until the owner turned up. Give this guy a wide birth becvcause if he doesn’t like you in any way, he’ll soon be moaning at you for silly things. He had a go at my sister for a bar tab that wasn’t her’s, it was my brother’s. He shouted at my mum (who is a 62 year old woman) because we were told that we could use their lounge when getting ready for the wedding but he didn’t like that so made us go down to the breakfast room where he complains further because we took up the whole room and all you could smell was hair spray. He shouted at my brother for making him keep the bar open until 4am when the owner wasn’t even there and the man who was said he was more than happy to keep the bar open for everyone. Everyone ordered a full English breakfast but didn’t know until it came out that we had to ask for beans so had a tiny sausage, some seriously crispy bacon, a mushroom, a tomato and a hash brown. The rooms were lovely, plenty of room although the family room bathroom could have done being bigger, you’d think that seeing as it’s a room for 4 people, you’d have a bigger bathroom than the broom cupboard we got with just a shower and a loo in it. I did get a shock when I got a call from the owner the night before our first night staying there saying that he had tried to charge my card for the rooms (I had booked 5 rooms for myself and family) and couldn’t put the payment through even though I had told him that everyone was paying cash when they arrived. He didn’t like this and kept saying that I “better be turning up”. So as long as you don’t see or speak to the owner, I think you could have a great stay here.
A very affordable little hotel right in the middle of Maidstone. We stayed here last night and managed to get a twin room with 2 full english breakfasts for £47. Bargain! The King street hotel is a bit dated inside (see pics) but all in all the staff were nice, the room was warm and it did just the job for a quick stop over in Kent’s county town. Highly recommended if you are on a budget.
