A lovely little cafe and a wonderfully gregarious sister combination running the show. Some may say the Maison Bertaux is pricey, and it’s true, the actual prices aren’t even on display! But who cares, this place oozes charm and is a stark contrast to most of the other establishments dotted along Greek street. The tea is fantastic and the pastries are some of the finest i have had in London.

The antithesis of starbucks and my new favourite place for coffee and cake in central London.

Great Soho cafe with attentive service and delicious cakes, pastries and tarts. Upstairs feels really a part of “cafe culture” and much more French than London. Arty graffiti and striking photographic portraits on the walls. Bright primary coloured curtains and as everyone has mentioned - huge pots of tea.

Highly recommended!

Ah Berties, and the joy of the croissants!

Just don’t mention the coffee, as others politely haven’t. It has got to be the worst in Soho, and has always been, from way back when the real Bertaux ran the place. I’ve ordered it hopefully for years thinking that they’d have to buy a new machine someday, especially as the general standard rose…

Never mind. The pots of tea are great, made with loose leaf, the peppermint especially good. And in the summer there’s fresh lemonade if they feel like making it.

Everything else is fab, and nearly all the best of its kind in London. Now too expensive to while away afternoons with a pot or two of tea, a ham and cheese croissant, a fruit tart and a notebook - it’s a place to treat and be treated.

This charming little tea and cake shop is definitely on the expensive side at around a tenner for a pot of tea and a (generous) slice of cake, but it’s the sheer character of the place, along with the inimitable Madame Bertaux herself that give you that Value Added Tax. The cakes are delicious, too. And even if you have to share a table with other people, it’s a friendly rather than intrusive affair. Last time I went, the walls and staircase were full of the artwork of Noel Fielding, of The Mighty Boosh fame. Yep, he loves the place and decided to exhibit all of his paintings there instead of a gallery: good move, it perfectly compliments the eccentricity of the shop.

Ok, it IS pricey, so be prepared. But if you feel like giving yourself a treat, pop in:the tables are tiny but the tea pot is huge and the blueberry cheesecake is heaven. Tea for two plus one slice of cake was around £9, but it was so nice to spend time there eating, sipping tea and chatting that I dream of going back for more.

Possibly the best croissants in London. This place vies for that Honour with Truc Vert. Not really for business meets but very good fun. Slightly odd decor and charmingly quirky staff. Highly reccommended. I suspect that a journalist would describe it as "a soho institution" or some other nonsense.
